Disney+ quickly deletes a spoilerific Guardians of the Galaxy episode of their Marvel Legends series ahead of the release of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The upcoming Disney+ special set to release on November 25 is Marvel Studios' second project under their Marvel Studios Special Presentation format. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special sees Drax (Dave Bautista) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) embark on a trip to Earth, hoping that bringing some seasonal joy to their homebase may provide a grieving Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) with some happiness, as he mourns the absence of Gamora (Zoe Saldaña) following the events of Avengers: Endgame.

As reported by Digital Spy, Disney+ quickly removed an episode of their MCU recap series, Marvel Legends, upon realizing that it contained a key spoiler from The Guardians of the Galaxy Holidays Special. With the Special Presentation centering on Drax and Mantis, the two new episodes focused on each character's journey across the Infinity Saga. While the episodes were quickly removed from the service upon the realization that it contained the spoiler, the information was quickly spread by viewers online, sharing a revelation that may be key to The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

Why Marvel Pulled The GOTG Legends Episodes

Releasing exclusively on Disney+, Marvel Legends is a series of short videos that help reintroduce or recap existing MCU characters and elements ahead of new releases. Using existing footage from previous movies in the franchise, the episodes retell each character's story in a format that can both introduce new fans to the MCU's heroes or give existing fans a quick reminder of their journey so far. Marvel Legends first launched alongside WandaVision in 2020, helping recap the journeys of both Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) throughout the Infinity Saga, with episodes focused on Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and King T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) each being released to tie in with Marvel Studios' 2022 productions.

However, Drax and Mantis' episodes contained a previously unseen deleted scene from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, revealing a previously unaddressed connection between the two characters. With The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special centering on them, it is likely the revelation plays a key part in the two characters' personal stories throughout the production. Furthermore, with the Special Presentation setting up future Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 plot points, it is possible that the revelation could also carry further implications for the two character's journeys in the final installment in James Gunn's trilogy.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special promises to provide audiences with a light-hearted seasonal adventure with Marvel's crew of cosmic heroes ahead of their last journey together in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It can also further prove what the Marvel Studios Special Presentation format can offer audiences. However, while promotion for it has revealed elements and plot points including the Disney+ special's soundtrack list and Kevin Bacon's cameo, Marvel Legends' unintentionally spoilerific scene is likely an element Gunn hoped to surprise audiences with. Though the episodes will likely be re-released at a later date following the Disney+ special's release, the episodes' quick removal suggests the spoiler may have revealed the true emotional core of Gunn's holiday adventure.
