Although the Avengers were able to revert Thanos' Snap in Avengers: Endgame, the final blow to his legacy will be seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Thanos saw himself as a savior to his people and the whole universe, but despite his charisma and resolve, he was far from being a hero. The Mad Titan murdered countless innocent people, destroyed entire civilizations, and tortured his two adoptive daughters, providing clear evidence of his villainy.

After getting a taste of defeat in Avengers: Infinity War, the Avengers brought back most of Thanos' victims and eradicated Thanos and his army in Avengers: Endgame. Now, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 can represent a new beginning for Gamora and Nebula and fully bring them together in their healing journey. Their reconciliation after so many years of Thanos' efforts to pit them against each other would be the final nail in the coffin for Thanos' legacy and would signal the start of a new chapter for his only offspring. By reuniting in a mission to bring peace to the galaxy, Gamora and Nebula can stand against everything their genocidal adoptive father stood for.

Gamora's MCU Story Needs Some Phase 5 Wins

Thanos, Gamora, and Nebula in the MCU

Both Nebula and Gamora have had tragic lives thanks to Thanos. However, Nebula was able to move on and enjoy a rather peaceful life after Thanos' Snap by joining the Avengers. On the other hand, Gamora barely had the chance to open up to Star-Lord and the Guardians of the Galaxy before it came time for Thanos to sacrifice her in exchange for the Soul Stone. The original Gamora, like Black Widow, Vision, Iron Man, and Quicksilver, can't be brought back from the dead. Her life ended tragically and she couldn't witness Thanos' defeat, much less participate in it.

A time-displaced Gamora arrived from 2014 and learned about her future adventures with the Guardians. Since she hasn't lived through them, she likely won't experience the satisfaction of returning with Star-Lord and co. in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, she can still earn redemption by siding temporarily with them and finding a peaceful life far away from her own version of Thanos and her tragic past. Making peace with Nebula — even though it wouldn't be her original sister — would epitomize her liberation.

Gamora Doesn't Have To Rejoin The Guardians (But Needs Some MCU Ties)

Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3

Unfortunately, the surviving Gamora variant may not be able to join the Guardians of the Galaxy full-time in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 or afterwards if they break up or if some of them die. Her romance with Star-Lord can never be the same, and she may find herself lost in a universe she doesn't recognize. In fact, Gamora's exact whereabouts after Avengers: Endgame are unknown to this day. Still, she can at least avoid her multiversal self's tragic ending and start from scratch alongside Nebula.

If Gamora gives the Guardians a chance, she and Nebula could forge a new path together with at least one surviving Guardian after the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, after which Gamora could slowly open up and find a similar sense of family to the MCU's original Gamora. Nebula can also get Gamora a spot in the Avengers, and Gamora can even end up joining the Stakar Ogord's Team in the future. Otherwise, Gamora can stay with the Ravagers and find a purpose as her leader, like Yondu before her. Gamora's journey came to an abrupt end in Avengers: Infinity War, but her multiversal variant deserves a better fate alongside Nebula in the Multiverse Saga.
