Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula in the MCU, reacts to James Gunn's comments about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 being the end for the team. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sees writer-director Gunn returning to finish the trilogy he started with 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy. The third installment reunites the Guardians, including returning actors Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, and Gillan. Guardians 3 will also see returning cast from the previous sequel, with Sylvester Stallone and Elizabeth Debicki expected to have expanded roles.

As with any project in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the plot of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is tightly under wraps. However, some details have been shared about the production. With the casting of Will Poulter, audiences know that Adam Warlock will be in the film following the character's tease at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Gunn has also recently made comments about Guardians 3, indicating that the lineup of Guardians present since the first film is about to change forever.

Gunn stated, "This is the last time people will see this team of Guardians," which is something he's hinted at in the past. Following this statement, Gillan took to Twitter to share her reaction. With a simple line of emojis, three crying faces followed by three hearts, Gillan captured both her response and the likely feelings of most fans. As audiences have come to know and love the Guardians over the years, going from obscure comic book characters to household names, Gillan shares in the grief most will likely experience when it's time to wish characters farewell. Any comic book reader knows that superhero teams routinely alter their rosters. The MCU is also no stranger to this, as following the events of Avengers: Endgame, the Avengers lineup is set for a complete overhaul. With Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man and Chris Evans' Captain America out of the picture, characters like Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange and Anthony Mackie's Captain America are expected to step in and take on more prominent roles. Likewise, the Guardians of the Galaxy have also had their shakeups, as new member Mantis was introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Unfortunately, the second installment also saw the death of Michael Rooker's Yondu in an emotional scene where he sacrificed himself to save Pratt's Star-Lord. Given Gillan's involvement as Nebula, she is likely privy to more information on the forthcoming team change, though she's probably been sworn to secrecy.

How the Guardians of the Galaxy lineup is going to change will likely be a guarded secret until the film's release. However, with the introduction of Adam Warlock, he could potentially join the team as a new Guardian if he isn't in a villainous role. Bautista has also stated that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be his last outing as Drax, meaning this is likely the final time audiences will see the character. Whether Drax dies or simply departs the team remains to be seen, though Gunn is no stranger to killing off beloved characters in service of quality storytelling. Audiences will be able to get some definitive answers when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 releases next year.
