James Gunn has said that there is a "distinct possibility" that members of The Suicide Squad cast could appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Gunn's DCEU debut has had a strong theatrical run following its release back in August, and the box office success is likely to continue when TSS releases on VOD platforms later this week. Shifting from one huge cinematic universe to another, Gunn recently confirmed that he is currently in the pre-production stages of his highly anticipated conclusion to the beloved MCU series, Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Suicide Squad brought back a selection of characters from its lesser-loved predecessor, 2016's Suicide Squad. Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), and Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) returned, and a number of new faces were added to the unique line up of super-powered delinquents. Some of these new additions, however, were faces that MCU audiences will have been previously acquainted with, such as Michael Rooker and Pom Klementieff, who have both appeared in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. Nathan Fillion also made an appearance in the Suicide Squad, having previously worked on a number of projects alongside Gunn, including a small Guardians cameo. Kicking off what could be dubbed as a cross-franchise 'Gunn-verse,' these fun appearances have had audiences wondering if more cameos can be expected in Gunn's future projects.

Now, Gunn has taken to Twitter to hint at the possibility of future appearances. After posting that he had just finished story-boarding a 12-page section of the Guardians of The Galaxy 3 script, the director took some time to answer a few quick questions. One curious fan asked "Will you invite any actor or actress from Suicide Squad for Guardians of the Galaxy V3?" to which Gunn confirmed that this was a "distinct possibility." This exciting semi-confirmation immediately opened the door to speculation as to who could make an appearance in the upcoming threequel. With the film still currently in the very early stages of production, it is likely that Gunn himself may not have any specific cameos set in stone at this time. What also remains to be seen is whether these invitations will offer a key role or simply a cameo. Little is known about the plot of the movie so far, but more details are likely to emerge over time as GOTG 3's production enters a higher gear.

With a fair amount of The Suicide Squad cast having previously appeared in the MCU outside of Gunn-related projects, it could be relatively easy to find a place for them within the GOTG 3 script. Taika Waititi, who plays Ratcatcher 1 in The Suicide Squad, first appeared as the loveable Rock-person, Korg, in Thor: Ragnarok. Korg has previously crossed paths with Rocket Racoon of the Guardians of the Galaxy, when both Rocket and Bruce Banner paid a visit to New Asgard in Avengers: Endgame, and it has since been confirmed that both Korg and the Guardians will be making an appearance in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder. Therefore, it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility that Waititi could be one of The Suicide Squad cast members who make an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy 3. However, it will be a while until audiences know for sure, as the movie is not slated for release until 2023.
