Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Storyboard Shows Mantis in Despair (Or Shock?)

A brand new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 storyboard reveals Mantis possibly either in despair or in shock. Debuting in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Pom Klementieff's MCU character returned in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame as an official member of the cosmic team. Now, her next big-screen appearance seems like it will subject her to some intense experiences as hinted by director James Gunn's latest social media post.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been significantly delayed, primarily due to Gunn's firing and eventual rehiring. The film's narrative as well as the highly anticipated soundtrack have long been decided, allowing the cast and crew to easily kickstart principal photography, which is currently in full swing. Despite this, official plot details have been scant, with both Gunn and Marvel Studios being very careful about what is revealed about the film. Thankfully, there are a couple of official details about the blockbuster, including the casting of Will Poulter as Adam Warlock and Chukwudi Iwuji in an unknown role. Aside from those, some of the people involved have been sharing updates online.

The latest one comes from Gunn himself, who took it to his official Instagram account to share a new storyboard for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It's a caricature of Mantis, as suggested by the antennas on the character's head, seemingly screaming in horror. According to the filmmaker, they're currently filming this particular scene. Gunn has teased repeatedly that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be an emotional roller coaster ride, with at least a big death or two. Since the threequel will effectively wrap up his MCU trilogy, it will be the last time fans will see this beloved Guardians of the Galaxy line-up on the big screen. Given this, Mantis' reaction in the particular sequence that they are currently filming could be something that's in relation to a fellow member's demise. Otherwise, it could also be her learning about something big, hence why she appears to be shocked. In any case, expect that something integral is happening in the aforementioned scene for her to have this facial expression.

Unlike Avengers: Endgame, which was properly set up to be the culmination of the original Avengers' story, it doesn't feel like many fans have realized just yet that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will also mark the end of an era in the MCU. Immediately after they launched in 2014, the cosmic team has quickly become a fan-favorite, and considering how obscure their characters are, it's more impressive that through Gunn's films, they have become household names. It's currently unknown what lies ahead of the team as a whole after the threequel, but chances are that Marvel Studios will find a way to continue their adventures one way or another.
