Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will go deeper into Rocket Raccon’s tragic backstory, and this could make way for a happier story for him which can also pay a tease from the first movie. The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues its expansion with its Multiverse Saga, which as the name says, is exploring the multiverse and the many dangers in it. In addition to introducing new heroes, villains, allies, and teams, the MCU also continues expanding the stories of already established characters, and among those are the Guardians of the Galaxy, who after their brief appearance at the beginning of Thor: Love and Thunder, are now preparing to return for a third movie.

The Guardians of the Galaxy made their first MCU appearance in 2014 in their first solo movie and returned three years later in a second adventure before joining the rest of the MCU’s heroes in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. At the end of Endgame, the team left Earth with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) while Star-Lord (Peter Quill) continued looking for Gamora (Zoe Saldaña), and after working with Thor for a while, they parted ways during the first act of Thor: Love and Thunder and are now ready to continue their stories on a third solo adventure, appropriately titled Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The third Guardians movie will see Star-Lord as he continues struggling with the loss of Gamora while they also go on a new mission to defend the universe and protect one of their own.

Of course, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will introduce new characters, of which some will surely have a big impact on the rest of the Multiverse Saga, as is the case of Adam Warlock (Will Poulter). Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will also see the first appearance of the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji), a scientist who specialized in evolution and who has been responsible for the enhancement of different species. The High Evolutionary could be linked to Rocket Raccoon by making him his creator, as Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will also explore Rocket’s backstory, and while it will surely be one of, if not the most heartbreaking moment of the movie, it can also lead to a happier story for Rocket by reuniting him with Lylla, his ally and sentimental partner as well.

Guardians 3's Villain Can Introduce Rocket's Love Interest (Who Was Teased In GOTG)

Guardians of the Galaxy Rocket Raccoon Lylla Easter egg

Lady Lylla is a sapient otter and heiress to the largest toymaking empire on the planet Halfworld, the largest planet in the Keystone Quadrant star system. The planet was settled by alien humanoids who created a staff of robots to provide for the humanoids who were housed at a psychiatric building. When a nearby star went nova, its radiation gave sentience to the robots, who in order to end their servitude, used genetic engineering to give awareness and intelligence to the animals that were left as companions for the insane humanoids. The animals were then charged with the patients’ care and protection and were relocated to the far side of the planet. Among those genetically engineered animals were Lylla and Rocket Raccoon.

Lylla’s parents were murdered by Judson Jakes, who took over their company, Mayhem Mekaniks. Jakes later got involved in a war with his competition, Lord Dyvyne, and after Rocket tried to end the war, he and Lylla joined forces and tried to kill Jakes. Lylla and Rocket were allies, but they also became romantic partners, with her being described as his soulmate. Although Lylla hasn’t physically appeared in the MCU (yet?), Guardians of the Galaxy included a very easy-to-miss Easter egg that confirmed she exists in this universe. In the scene where Rocket, Star-Lord, Gamora, and Groot are arrested and their criminal records are shown on the screen, Rocket’s info reads “Associates: Groot, Lylla”, and the best way to introduce her would be through the High Evolutionary.

As mentioned above, due to the High Evolutionary’s experiments in evolution and enhancement of different creatures, he could be turned into Rocket Raccon’s creator and thus Lylla’s as well, and if the exploration of Rocket’s backstory takes the audience to Halfworld (or its MCU equivalent), Lylla could make her first appearance and even reunite with Rocket, who she surely hasn’t seen in a long, long time.

Lylla In Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 Can Give Rocket A Happy Story

Rocket Raccoon crying in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Since Guardians of the Galaxy, it has been established that Rocket Raccoon’s backstory is quite heartbreaking, and as James Gunn doesn’t hesitate when it comes to making the audience cry, Rocket’s past will surely be among the most emotionally heavy moments in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 – however, not everything related to his past has to be tragic. While reuniting with Lylla might not go as smooth as many would like at the beginning, given how important she was to Rocket – and supposing she’s also his romantic soulmate in the MCU –, this can be what gives a much-needed turn to Rocket’s story and finally makes it a happy one. Rocket Raccoon is always defensive, and while he has built strong bonds and friendships with his fellow Guardians, he hardly ever lets his guard down (except with Groot, his best friend), but reuniting with Lylla can bring out a warmer and more vulnerable side of Rocket, allowing him to finally have some happiness.

Lylla Can Make Rocket Raccoon's (Probable) GOTG 3 Death Even Better

Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is said to be the final movie of the Guardians team as it is now known, with Gunn saying on different occasions that this will be his last Guardians movie, and if there was a fourth one, it would follow a different team. While this doesn’t necessarily mean every member of the Guardians of the Galaxy will die in Vol. 3, the MCU’s history so far gives enough reasons to believe that not all of them will survive this third adventure, and one of those could be Rocket Raccoon. After everything Rocket has gone through, it would be best for him to get a happy ending, which he could have with Lylla, more so if they defeat the High Evolutionary together, but the tragedy of his arc also makes him a good candidate to die in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, if Lylla and Rocket reunite, Rocket could finally get some much needed and deserved happiness, and even if he sacrificed himself for her and the team, his story wouldn’t have been entirely tragic, making his demise better.
