The character Adam Warlock may not appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The Guardians made their debut in 2014, before returning for a sequel in 2017, as well Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. A third film featuring the Guardians has been confirmed but is still without a release date.

Adam Warlock made his first appearance back in the late '60s, yet the character has never been brought to the big screen. Warlock played a big role in the Infinity War and Infinity Gauntlet comic books, leading many people to believe he would be introduced as a way to defeat Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That obviously turned out to not be the case, but the character has been teased in the past before. In the mid-credits scene for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, a cocoon believed to contain Adam Warlock was seen when Ayesha was speaking to a Sovereign Chambermaid. This storyline was never expanded upon in the MCU, but not it looks like the character might not even appear in the Guardians' third outing.

According to HN Entertainment, Adam Warlock might not actually be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as anticipated. Gunn recently held a Q&A session on his Instagram, where one fan asked him who was going to be playing Adam Warlock. Gunn didn't respond with a tease of any sort, but instead replied, "I never said Adam Warlock was in the movie."

James Gunn and Adam Warlock

It's always been a question as to when/if Adam Warlock was going to be introduced to the MCU, but for a while, the fate of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was also in question. Back in July of last year, Disney fired Gunn from the sequel due to old, offensive tweets that had resurfaced from Gunn's past. Gunn was rehired by Disney earlier this year, but only after Warner Bros. hired him to direct The Suicide SquadGunn has stated before that he won't rush The Suicide Squad to make Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3meaning fans are a few years away from seeing the film.

Fans only know so much about Marvel's plans for Phase 4, but not including Adam Warlock in those plans would be a bit of a surprise. Not only has Warlock been teased before, but with future movies seeming to focus on cosmic storylines, now seems like the ideal time to introduce the character. While Gunn's message seems to point to Warlock not being in the film, Gunn hasn't flat out said that the character wouldn't be included in the movie. Marvel is using Gunn's script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but there's no telling whether the character is included in the pages or not.
