Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be about Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Nebula's (Karen Gillan) story. This is according to Howard the Duck actor Seth Green, who recently made his MCU re-emergence in Marvel's What If...?. The James Gunn-directed threequel is currently preparing to begin production which is expected to kick off sometime later this year.

The road to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been tumultuous thus far for several reasons, including the brief firing and eventual rehiring of Gunn. Before he was booted out of his Marvel Studios job, however, the story for the movie was already locked, and it's safe to say that they're sticking with that original narrative with very minimal changes. Official plot details have been scant at the moment, but between teases from the filmmaker himself and comments from some of the cast members, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be a highly emotional film. Now, however, new details come to light about what else is to expect from it.

Speaking with Comic Book about his recent return to the MCU via the Disney+ animated show, What If...?, Green was asked if fans can look forward to his appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The actor claims that he's not sure, but he continues to reveal that the movie will be "the sisters' story" — referring to Nebula and Gamora.

"I don't know if Howard's a part of it, I haven't heard anything about that. The only thing I know is that it's the girls' story, it's the sisters' story, that it's Gamora and Nebula's story. So I don't know if it's a prequel, or if it comes off in the new timeline that's splintered post-the Time Heist. Honestly, I don't know anything about it... I wouldn't be hurt if Howard's not a central character to the sisters' story."

Avengers Endgame Gamora Deleted Scene

While Green is a bit confused about where in the timeline the events of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 fit in, Gunn previously shared that it will be set in a post-Avengers: Endgame world. Given that, chances are that the threequel will involve the search for 2014 Gamora whose whereabouts remain unknown after Thanos (Josh Brolin) was defeated. It's worth noting that after her disappearance, she somehow patched things up with present-day Nebula, so it will be interesting what dynamic they will have when they inevitably reunite. Meanwhile, Rocket Raccoon's (Bradley Cooper) origins story is also expected to be unveiled.

Aside from plot specifics, the fact that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the end of this lineup already sets it up as an emotional movie. Both Gunn and Dave Bautista, who plays Drax the Destroyer, have announced that this will also be their final MCU film. Meanwhile, at least one major death has been confirmed, further driving the idea that this will mark the end of an era for these rag-tag cosmic characters.
