In an effort to lure fans back to movie theaters, Marvel released a video teasing information such as new MCU trailer footage, titles, and release dates for upcoming films — this includes Guardians of the Galaxy 3's logo reveal. Director James Gunn has confirmed the film will be the last in his series, but he promises to go out with a bang. The movie's logo just might be hiding some clues as to what fans might expect from the finale.

The Guardians of the Galaxy movies follow the titular band of misfits, as they go from individual criminals to banding together to form an intergalactic group of heroes dedicated to protecting the universe. The series started off as a carefree and fun space romp, the first Guardians of the Galaxy cementing a catchy soundtrack. But throughout the Guardians' appearances in the MCU, they've grappled with heavier subjects, such as the death of a father figure with the loss of one of their own. Guardians of the Galaxy 3's logo hints that the final movie in the series is poised to continue down the same path.

A Reddit fan theory predicts that the colors of the logo are foreshadowing the death of a beloved character. Redditor Cabballer commented that Guardians of the Galaxy 2's logo was red and blue. This matches Yondu, who died in the film's climax. Guardians of the Galaxy 3's logo is red and grey, which closely aligns with Drax (Dave Bautista). Sadly, this might mean that the character's time in the Guardians may come to a close in the upcoming movie.

Multiple elements of the logo point to a serious event wrapping up the series. The logos for the first two movies were lively, either with their color scheme or space background. Guardians of the Galaxy 3, on the other hand, has more muted colors with a plain black background. The number three in the logo is bracketed by the vertical lines reminiscent of an old stereo amplifier, seemingly mimicking the idea of turning up the volume. The combination of all of that points to Guardians of the Galaxy 3 being the biggest – but also potentially the biggest tear-jerker – in the series.

Still, the Drax theory isn't an iron-clad one. Fans within the subreddit posited that the grey and red color combination could represent Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, or Drax. One fan even argued that Guardians 3 will be more likely to kill off Rocket since he survived the Snap. But there is one key piece of evidence pointing towards Drax's death — Bautista recently said he anticipates Guardians of the Galaxy 3 being his final appearance as Drax. While Bautista has denied claims that Drax will be killed off, Marvel is notoriously tight-lipped. Given the serious and epic finale director James Gunn and the Guardians cast has teased, along with Bautista's quotes that he is done with Drax, all signs point to a departure for his character. No matter if that's death or something else, Drax will surely have a heroic send-off in Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
