James Gunn confirms that Kraglin (Sean Gunn) will return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The last time fans saw Yondu's former right-hand man was in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 prior to Thanos' (Josh Brolin) attack on Earth. Despite Kraglin's recent absence in the MCU, the threequel's writer and director reveals that the character will make his franchise return in the much-anticipated film.
Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was initially scheduled to roll out immediately after the Infinity Saga. However, Gunn was unexpectedly booted out of his Marvel Studios job last year when his old offensive tweets were unearthed. For months, it became a popular topic of discussion online with people having varying opinions on the matter, but it didn't seem like it the House of Mouse wasn't going to change their mind regarding the director. Fortunately, Disney ultimately walked back on their word and rehired the filmmaker, but now, the project has been indefinitely delayed.
Plot specifics for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 remain tightly under wraps, but prior to being ousted from the project, he revealed that the story for the flick was already done. While he's not allowed to reveal any spoiler, Gunn recently confirmed that Kraglin will indeed appear in the Marvel feature during an Instagram question and answer session. Check out his full reply below:
It hasn't been revealed what was Kraglin up to during the events of Avengers: Infinity War. By the time Star-Lord and his team picked up an unconscious Thor, it had been two years since Yondu's death and battle with Ego. The gang didn't even mention the character during the whole time, nor did they attempt to contact him when the threat of Thanos became more obvious. The last time fans saw Kraglin, he had just inherited Yondu's Yaka arrow and he was attempting to master it like its previous owner. Gunn previously said that the character "has some important stuff to do" so he wasn't in Avengers 3. In that same vein, it's also uncertain if Kraglin was one of the unfortunate half of the universe who perished through Thanos' snap.
Kraglin was initially going to appear in Endgame, during the climactic battle. In a few behind-the-scenes images, Sean was seen sporting the same fin head piece that Yondu was wearing. This means that he's fully mastered using his former comrade's Yakka arrow - something that will helpful in his upcoming outing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 if he ever finds himself in a dicey situation. Considering the delay for the movie, it's curious if there had been any narrative tweaks made to it, especially since the cosmic team is apparently also making an appearance in Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder.
