Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star Zoe Saldaña shares a surprising and somewhat creepy detail about how Gamora is brought to life in some of the film's big action sequences. James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to conclude the stories of Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Groot (Vin Diesel), and Gamora after the superhero team was first introduced into the MCU back in 2014. Gamora died during the events of Avengers: Infinity War but the earlier version of the character who was brought back in Avengers: Endgame is expected to feature prominently in the upcoming MCU film.

In a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, star Zoe Saldaña explains that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has a unique way of filming Gamora in certain big action sequences. After Fallon brings up one of Saldaña's recent social media posts of casts of Gamora's head, the actor reveals that those head replicas are then used as reference points on set for the visual effects team. Check out Saldaña's full comment below:

“And the thing is that these are created, it’s taken out a cast of my head and it’s so they can put the wigs on or any kind of additional prosthetics that go on Gamora. And sometimes it’s just to put her in the background. Kind of maybe a “Where’s Waldo?” But like “Where’s Gamora?” Sometimes, like let’s say if they’re shooting a big action sequence and my character is in the background in certain parts of that set, they’ll just put a head like running back and forth so that the computer can track it."

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Will Be A Big Movie For Gamora

Star-Lord, Gamora, Nebula, and Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2

Although Gamora continues to live on in the MCU, it's a 2014 version of the character who doesn't have the same memories as the version who was sacrificed to get the Soul Stone. Consequently, she feels no real connection to Peter or the other Guardians and leaves shortly after Thanos' defeat in Avengers: Endgame. An official trailer has not yet been released to the public, but attendees at this summer's Comic-Con were treated to the first Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer, which showed Gamora leading the Ravagers. The upcoming film, then, will clearly see the character essentially blazing her own trail without the Guardians.

Peter and the old Gamora were in love in previous installments, but the new version of Gamora doesn't have any of those same memories, setting up an interesting story in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Pratt's character is already shown to be very depressed at Gamora's absence in the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, and it seems likely that the character will try to get Gamora to fall in love with him all over again in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In addition to Gunn's promise that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will explore Rocket's tragic backstory, Gamora bonding with Peter and the other members of the team seems like it will a central focus of the upcoming film.

When audiences first met Gamora back in 2014 she had a somewhat prickly demeanor and could come across as quite cold. Peter will have his work cut out for him in terms of breaking through that rough exterior, especially now that she's serving as the leader of the Ravagers. It's unclear what the future holds for Gamora and the other Guardians, but Gunn has already confirmed that the upcoming film will serve as his farewell to the characters, meaning it's probably the last time the heroes take center stage in their own movie. With its release date set for May, it's likely that audiences don't have much longer to wait before the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is released publicly.
