Dave Bautista says goodbye to the character of Drax the Destroyer after filming wraps on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Bautista's Drax was first introduced in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxywritten and directed by James Gunn. Bautista reprised the role in 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. After his appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder this summer and the Guardian's holiday special, next year's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to be the last time Bautista plays the character.

The plot of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 remains unknown, as does what end is in store for Drax. Gunn has been keeping fans apprised of the production status of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film, recently confirming that the project is done shooting and that work will now begin in post-production. In January, Bautista previously reflected on the end of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, calling Gunn and the rest of the cast his "family" and expressing that concluding the trilogy will be "bittersweet."

In an emotional new Instagram post, Bautista shares a photo of himself with Gunn and several castmates, penning an emotional goodbye to Drax in the caption. The actor explains that he barely had time to process the end of filming before he was already onto his next project but says that the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise "changed [his] life." Bautista played Drax for the better part of ten years, meaning the character is undeniably an important part of his life. Bautista doesn't reveal what film he's already moved on to, but it could be M. Night Shyamalan's Knock at the Cabin, which is also expected to release next year. It remains to be seen what is in store for Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but Bautista is treating it as the last time he will be playing the character.

While Drax will appear in Thor: Love and Thunder this summer, it's unclear exactly how big of a role he will play. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 certainly seems like the final time audiences will see Bautista's take on the character, but, thankfully, Drax is also expected to appear in this year's The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. There have been no hints yet regarding how Drax's story will wrap up in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but Bautista is thankful for the role and its positive impact on him as an actor.
