In a Screen Rant exclusive interview, James Gunn teases Adam Warlock's story in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy 3. The last standalone Guardians of the Galaxy film came in 2017 with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, although the Guardians themselves have since appeared in more recent MCU movies like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Luckily for fans, it has been confirmed that Gunn will return to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is currently in production.

In a post-credits scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it is revealed that the Sovereign, led by Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki), have created a superweapon, dubbed "Adam," with which to destroy the Guardians. Although the character is not shown in the film, Will Poulter, who is best known for his work in We're the Millers, The Maze Runner, and Midsommar, has been confirmed to be taking up the role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Details regarding Adam Warlock in the upcoming third film remain scarce and Poulter himself has resisted even commenting on whether the character will be good or bad.

In a Screen Rant exclusive interview with James Gunn, the director remains tightlipped about Poulter's Warlock but does confirm that, so far, the actor is "killing it." Gunn also teases that fans are going to "love" the character before he quickly corrects himself and says they will instead "appreciate" him. Check out Gunn's full comment below when asked about Poulter's role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3:

"Oh, he's the best. He's the best. He's killing it. People are going to really love Adam — or love? They're going to appreciate Adam Warlock, I'll say."

While Gunn doesn't give much away, he certainly seems pleased with Poulter's casting and his performance thus far. His comment also suggests that Adam Warlock may not be a very "good" guy, at least in terms of his relationship with the Guardians. In the comics, Warlock is one of the strongest beings in the universe, his power perhaps even surpassing that of Captain Marvel, meaning the Guardians of the Galaxy will have their work cut out for them if they end up having to face off against the character.

Gunn's comments tease that Adam Warlock will be a highlight of the upcoming film, but, unfortunately, fans still have a long time to wait before seeing the character in action. The film is currently scheduled for release in May of 2023, meaning even a trailer for the film is not likely to be released anytime soon. When Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 does release, however, Gunn's comments suggest that Warlock may not be easily categorized as "good" or "bad," but that fans will still like what they see and admire the direction Gunn is taking him in.
