Instead of revisiting Gamora’s romance with Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could pair the character with Adam Warlock. Years after being set up in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Adam Warlock is finally joining the MCU. Set to be played by Will Poulter, the Golden Gladiator is already a major talking point for the upcoming third installment and a character who could potentially have a bright future in Marvel’s movies or Disney+ shows.

Although Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the end for Star-Lord’s team, Adam could continue making appearances in the MCU long after their arc is finished. Depending on how he’s used in Gunn’s movie, he may even be a candidate for Guardians of the Galaxy 4’s roster. Regardless, there are high expectations for his role in the cosmic side of the MCU, but he could make an impact even earlier on the team in regard to his relationships.

There are a number of different roles he could fill in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Being a member of the team would be the obvious choice, but that could be just one way he’ll be utilized. Another option is for him to serve as a love interest to Gamora (Zoe Saldana). After all, the movie can’t continue the same exact romantic relationship that she shared with Star-Lord. The Gamora that he knew died in Avengers: Infinity War, which means that the alternate timeline Gamora they’re currently looking for doesn’t have any affection for Peter. Theoretically, she could still develop those feelings if they meet, but that would risk repeating facets of their romance that were already explored in Guardians of the Galaxy. Gamora and Adam Warlock having a relationship instead isn't out of the question. They were romantically linked in the comics and, in fact, she was introduced as a supporting character in his solo title during the early 1970s.

That’s why it would be better for the MCU to offer something different via Adam Warlock. As a genetically engineered, superpowered being who was only recently born, Adam will be totally different than Peter Quill. That promises unique interactions with any character he meets, particularly Gamora. The relationship she could have with him won’t have anything in common with the one she had with Star-Lord. The Peter Quill of the MCU is a fun-loving space pirate who showed Gamora a new side of life, whereas Warlock won’t have any of his traits. If the movie sticks to the source material, he’ll be more of a brooding, righteous character with deeply held moral convictions.

As for how it can work, the movie can take inspiration from how the comics handled it. Along with Pip the Troll, they made up a superhero trio who traveled through outer space for years. Over time, Gamora fell in love with him, but this went nowhere for years, on account of Adam Warlock’s decision to avoid romance. They eventually overcame this hurdle, and the two became a couple. Some version of this love story could be adapted for Gamora and Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, especially if they meet before the Guardians find her. Though she may prefer to travel alone, circumstances could force her into Adam Warlock’s company in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, creating a compelling dynamic between her, Adam Warlock, and Peter Quill.
