Director James Gunn debunks rumors about the depiction of Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Following his recent work in the DCEU with The Suicide Squad and the HBO Max series, Peacemaker, the filmmaker returns to the MCU to finish his cosmic trilogy. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to wrap up the overarching narrative of the beloved rag-tag heroes that started in 2014 when they first joined the franchise.

Plot details for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are still being kept under wraps, with no official looks yet revealed for the film. That's understandable considering that the threequel isn't due to premiere until May of 2023, while Marvel Studios are focusing on other projects on their slate. Gunn, on the other hand, has been busy working on the blockbuster's post-production, and while he hasn't revealed any spoiler specifics, the director has consistently offered updates for fans on the GOTG 3 process. Gunn is active on social media, and often takes to Twitter to debunk (or confirm) casting/production rumors to save the film from being wrapped up in false narratives.

Now, Gunn's latest Twitter post squashes the rumor about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's iteration of Adam Warlock. According to the original claim, Will Poulter's upcoming character in the threequel won't be wearing his signature blue and red costume, or his forehead gem, as seen in Marvel Comics. The original post about the speculation has since been deleted, but user @YorkshireToon was able to take a screenshot of it. Check out his and Gunn's original tweets below:

Long before Gunn started working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, he already set up Warlock's arrival in the MCU. At the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the character's debut was explicitly teased, leading fans to speculate about his impending introduction. There were even rumors that Warlock would play an integral part in the Infinity Saga considering his ties to the narrative in Marvel Comics, but that didn't come to fruition. Instead, properly debuting the character has been saved for Gunn in his upcoming threequel, and he has full creative control as to how to present and utilize Warlock, including how he might look in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Given Gunn has now debunked this specific rumor, Poulter's live-action Warlock may indeed be sporting his comic-accurate look, or at least a version of it.

It's worth nothing that Marvel Studios tends to portray characters as largely comic-accurate. However, since most characters have changed their looks over the years, the franchise has a lot of choices when adapting them on the screen. For the Guardians of the Galaxy, however, Gunn has been the primary creative force behind the Guardians franchise, and he maintains that role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Considering how important and special the Guardians saga is to Gunn, it's understandable that he doesn't want the film to be a victim of false rumors, but just how Adam Warlock will be brought into the MCU in live-action remains to be seen.
