Marvel Studios is not currently casting Adam Warlock for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, according to director James Gunn. Filming for the threequel is confirmed to begin sometime later this year and because of that, rumors for the project have started swirling around, the latest of which claims that the hunt for the much-anticipated character has started. But, before the report could even begin gaining traction, Gunn already shot it down.

Plot specifics for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are still scant at the moment, but Gunn had finished the script for the movie before he even got fired and subsequently rehired for the movie. From there, it was further delayed as the director prioritized his commitment to Warner Bros. for The Suicide Squad and its spin-off show, Peacemaker. Now, however, the project will soon move forward with a tentative production start, and with that, conversations about whether or not Adam Warlock will appear in the film after his arrival was teased in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 stinger.

Taking it to his official Twitter account, Gunn personally shot down a new report that the search for Adam Warlock is currently in full swing. According to the report, Marvel Studios is looking for a Zac Efron-type for the character as they prepare to debut him in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Check out his tweet below:

Rumors about Adam Warlock's arrival in the MCU have been circulating for years, ever since it was more explicitly hinted at in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Since he was a main player in the Infinity Saga storyline from the comics, there were also expectations that he would pop up in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Obviously, that didn't happen. While Gunn already squashed the casting report, some are still convinced that Adam Warlock can appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, especially if Ayesha and the Sovereign will be back. At this point, however, it's best to keep expectations down given the filmmaker's recent comment on the matter.

Assuming that Adam Warlock does not have any involvement in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the film already has some major stories to cover. For starters, it's expected to provide answers to the ongoing mystery about the current whereabouts of 2014 Gamora after Thanos' defeat in Endgame. Rocket's origin story will also be an important part of the movie's narrative. While everyone waits for the long-delayed project, some members of the cosmic group will first return on the big screen via Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder.
