Is Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 On Netflix?

Is Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 available on Netflix, and if so, for how long? When Marvel first announced their plan to not only turn some of their lesser-known superheroes like Iron Man and Thor into solo blockbusters, but also into films that would crossover with each other, other studios thought they were insane. Cut to 2012 when The Avengers was one of the most anticipated movies of recent years, and suddenly their plan made a lot of sense.

Similar doubts were raised about Guardians Of The Galaxy when it was first announced. Guardians was one of Marvel's most obscure comics and director James Gunn (Slither) didn't seem like the obvious choice to helm a Star Wars-style blockbuster. Again, the gamble paid off, with Guardians Of The Galaxy becoming one of the MCU's most acclaimed efforts, due to its breezy humor and perfect casting. It didn't take long for a sequel to get greenlit, with Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 arriving in 2017.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 wasn't quite as warmly received, with reviewers being critical of the thin plot, but it was still a huge success. The sequel also featured Kurt Russell (The Thing) as Ego, Peter Quill's father, which was pretty much perfect casting. For those who wish to watch Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 on Netflix in the U.S., there's a good news, bad news situation.

The good news is Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 was added to Netflix USA in December 2017, but the bad news is the movie is due to be removed May 5, 2019. Other Marvel movies leaving the streaming service soon include Avengers: Infinity War on June 25 and Captain America: Civil War on June 30, 2019. With Disney set to launch their own service Disney+ by the end of 2019, it's highly doubtful Marvel movies will be appearing on Netflix again.

Disney+ is poised to be a major competitor to Netflix, and in addition to featuring a line-up of their classic movies, they'll launch original content like Star Wars TV series The Mandalorian and a Loki show starring Tom Hiddleston. Fans in the UK are in luck, however, with movies like Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2 and Ant-Man recently being added to Netflix. They should remain on the service until at least 2020.

While Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2 may have been a little disappointing to some viewers, fans should still look forward to the upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3. James Gunn will tackle the sequel after he completes work on The Suicide Squad.
