Guardians of the Galay Vol. 2 director James Gunn has revealed multiple cameos made by his family members in the film, in addition to his brother Sean as the Ravager Kraglin and the motion-capture of Rocket RaccoonGuardians 2 was Gunn's second turn helming a Marvel project, and was almost his final one after he was unceremoniously fired following the resurfacing of old tweets he made several years ago. Following his dismissal, a fan-campaign was started calling for Gunn to be reinstated as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The cast of the film also rallied to the director's side, with Dave Bautista even threatening to walk from the film. Disney eventually relented and reinstated Gunn, but not before the director had already agreed to helm The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros.

While Guardians 2 wasn't necessarily as well received as its predecessor, the film still proved successful, with many praising its theme of family. The film saw Chris Pratt's Peter Quill/Star-Lord meet his father Ego (Kurt Russell) for the first time and learn the full extent of his heritage as a part-Celestial being. Quill also had to balance his feelings towards his biological father with his father-figure, Michael Rooker's Yondu. This theme of family also extended to the rest of the characters. Zoe Saldana's Gamora reconnected with her sister, Nebula (Karen Gillan), and Rocket learned to accept his place within the found-family dynamic of the Guardians.

Now it seems that this family theme goes even deeper, with Gunn revealing in a Twitter post that his family members made several cameos in the film. The director shared a screenshot from the sub-reddit 'Movie Details,' which claimed that the old couple seen taking photos in one scene, credited as "'Weird Old Man" and "Weird Old Man's Mistress" are Gunn's parents. Gunn confirmed the detail by simply writing "True," and followed it up by revealing the other cameos that his family members made throughout the film, with most of them ultimately being killed by Ego. The director also joked that "My family loves getting killed in my movies." You can check out Gunn's tweets below:

As noted earlier, Gunn frequently collaborates with his brother Sean, who is involved in many of his past works. Revealing the rest of his family's minor involvement in Guardians 2 is not a surprising move from Gunn either, since the director is also well-known for including fun Easter eggs and cameos in his films and then sharing interesting trivia about them on social media. Most recently, he included Guardians star Pom Klementieff as a dancer in his 2021 film The Suicide Squad, which he live tweeted through a watch party of earlier this month.

Including his family in his work is certainly a nice thing for Gunn to do. What's more, involving them just to kill them off later on fits perfectly with the dark sense of humour that the director has become known for. Hopefully, Gunn can continue crafting these fun cameos for his family members when he returns for Guardians 3. While the film is set to be his final turn in the MCU, which is understandable considering his recent history with Disney, it would also be fun to include similar roles for his family in other potential projects, such as a Suicide Squad sequel. Regardless, it is heartwarming that Gunn went to such lengths to immortalize his family in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
