Before its release, Guardians of the Galaxy was deemed to be one of Marvel's greatest risks yet, and potentially their first flop. The movie crushed expectations at every turn and turned a group of heroes many did not know into some of the most beloved characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, three years after the first film's release, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 looks to repeat that success.

James Gunn is back as the director and the entire main cast has returned for the sequel as well - which Gunn reminded everyone began one year ago today. So far, the film has not been heavily marketed outside of a noticeable push on Baby Groot's cuteness. With the film just over three months away from release, some new photos highlight the Guardians' next adventure.

USA Today revealed four new official stills from the movie and one behind-the-scenes photo today, which James Gunn has since shared as well on his Facebook page. Chris Pratt is front and center in nearly every photo, making it clear who the true star is, but these photos also tease Mantis and Yondu's eventual membership. Take a look:

In addition to the photos, Gunn also told USA Today that audiences should not expect the same movie as before.

The first movie was successful because we took chances and gave people the unexpected. This movie can only really be what it is, Guardians can only be what they are, if they’re taking a risk. It means giving them a much different movie.

While three of the photos (Yondu and Rocket's escape, Star-Lord and Drax crash landing, and Star-Lord ready for battle) have been seen in varying degrees during the trailer, it is the picture of Mantis and Drax that is the closest thing to a true new look at the film. Based on the trailers, this appears to be the same location of Rocket and Groot's bomb sequence, so it is unclear what (or whom) Drax and Mantis are shocked about. Could this be their first encounter with Ayesha and her true villainous plot? Or, has a team member sacrificed themselves for the greater good of the team?

Even with some new looks at the film, they may not be the ones that everyone has been hoping for. Many are anxiously awaiting to see Ego's planet and humanoid form, in addition to seeing Ayesha in non-toy form. There are also plenty of other first looks to come with Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone serving mysterious roles as well. These images should come in due time, either in the next trailer or possibly after as well. But, even if they don't, it's this type of secrecy for which fans are usually hoping to avoid spoilers. So if this is the case, then audiences can get these looks in their intended fashion: in the theaters.
