For movie buffs, nothing compares to a good double feature. Back to back viewings of cinematic bliss have long been a staple in the movie-going culture, bringing double the fun at the price of one. The billing style is nostalgic, previously serving a generation eager to stay entertained and out of the house for as long as possible.

Though the new trend is to stay in and binge watch shows alone, the double feature is coming back with the rise of multi-part franchises, and it just might draw audiences out of the darkness of their bedrooms and into the marquee lights of the theater. In recent years, Marvel's made a habit of screening sequels with the original film, and they're set to continue it this year.

Along with a snappy new poster, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn has announced on Facebook that on Thursday May 4th both Guardians 1 and Vol. 2 will be screened back to back in RealD 3D for four hours of intergalactic bliss. Guests will receive an exclusive poster and souvenir collectible button set. Tickets are available on Fandango and you can check out the new poster here:

The event fits perfectly with the franchise’s retro vibe, perfectly combining nostalgia with the modern day superhero genre. Indeed, from the looks of the trailers, the retro style and swagger of the first film seems to bleed into the sequel, with the same sense of humor mixed with impressive CGI and epic battle scenes.

The story follows the Star-Lord aka Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and the gang as they pick up right where the first film left off. Quill journeys to learn more about his true parentage, all while trying to keep his newly formed team together. The ensemble includes Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), (Mantis) Pom Klementieff, Nebula (Karen Gillan), Yondu (Michael Rooker), and the new Baby Groot (Vin Diesel).

The film is already tracking for a massive opening, which is already leading to talk of a third movie.  This, however, is not the only franchise we can see the beloved team in. Star-Lord and the crew are set to be featured in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. Though there are not a lot of details of what their roles officially entail, it will be exciting to see the galaxies collide.
