A new piece of artwork for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 provides the best look yet at Adam Warlock's cocoon. While Vol. 2 proved to be more divisive than the first Guardians, James Gunn's highly anticipated follow-up to his 2014 smash hit still managed to expand upon both the visuals and characters from the first film in new and exciting ways. And few of Guardians 2's introductions were as impactful as Gunn's decision to include The Sovereign, an extremely proud alien race - led by Elizabeth Debicki's Ayesha - who wind up hunting the Guardians throughout a majority of the film, in response to Rocket's theft of one of their most prized possessions.

When it was announced that Debicki's Ayesha would be playing a pivotal role in Vol. 2, many die hard Marvel comic book readers took it as a possible sign of the long-awaited introduction of Adam Warlock into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, given her relation to him in the comics. But few could have quite predicted the film's surprising, last minute introduction of Warlock.

While the character wasn't introduced in his full-form in Vol. 2, fans did get to briefly see Warlock's iconic cocoon. And despite Marvel not publicly releasing an official HD image of it yet, freelance concept artist Ian Joyner has given fans their best look at the cocoon to date by revealing some concept art he did for the project. Adam Warlock Cocoon - Full Version

As most Marvel fans are already aware, one of the many mid-credits tags attached to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, was a small scene featuring Debicki's defeated Ayesha sitting in her throne room, teasing the impending arrival of her new, perfect creation, with Gunn then cutting to an elaborate and gorgeous golden cocoon. And in case the message wasn't already clear enough at that point, Ayesha finished the scene by saying she would call her creation, "Adam."

Not only was the confirmation of Warlock's inevitable existence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe a big moment for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but for the MCU as a whole. Fans have been waiting for Adam Warlock to be introduced for years, especially after many believed his cocoon to be one of the numerous Easter eggs hidden in The Collector's (Benicio del Toro) collection. And while it's been confirmed that Adam Warlock will not be appearing in Avengers: Infinity War, it's only a matter of time now before fans finally get to see the character on the big screen for the first time.
