The release of Grand Theft Auto 6 is likely still years away. Despite all of the speculation around the eventual Rockstar Games launch, nothing about its location, story, or characters has been set in stone. Even so, fans have gravitated towards the widely circulated "Project Americas" rumors that claim GTA 6 will be a revival of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. While there's no hard evidence supporting that theory, a modern-day comeback of the 2002 release would be the perfect setting for one of the most memorable celebrity cameos in the series' history.

Hollywood star Danny Trejo played Umberto Robina, a Cuban street gang leader in Vice City and Vice City Stories that has become a beloved supporting character from the GTA entries set in fictional Miami. While Trejo is far from the only celebrity cast in a GTA game, he was the earliest to receive a character model that actually resembled his likeness. Umberto touts the same mustache, sleeked-back long hair, and stoic gaze seen in the Machete movies. Umberto's character also fits the same kind of ruthless roles Trejo has become known for.

Umberto is a high-ranking criminal in Vice City and befriends both Vice City's protagonist Tommy Vercetti and Vice City Stories' main character Victor Vance. Umberto warms up to Tommy and Vic after they help him gain an edge over his criminal rivals, even going as far as pledging loyalty to Tommy after the Vice City protagonist destroys a competing drug factory. While that might have seemed like the end of Umberto's story arc, GTA 6 could be the perfect game for Trejo's return to the Grand Theft Auto series - especially if the Project Americas rumors are true.

The alleged leaks claim that GTA 6 would be set somewhere between the 1970s and 1980s. Vice City was set in 1986, and Vice City Stories took place two years earlier in 1984. Both GTA installments feature Umberto as a well-established kingpin, which could mean he could either be rising in the ranks of Vice City's criminal underground in the 1970s or be the same gang leader fans remember from past games in GTA 6. If that's the case, it would be interesting to have to option to ally with or fight against Umberto.

Gameplay details for GTA 6 are still completely unknown, but rumors have suggested it might include several different Grand Theft Auto cities in addition to a modernized Vice City map. If that's the case, Umberto would fit perfectly as one of the criminal leaders that run Vice City's illicit underbelly, one gamers could either choose to assist or betray in favor of warming up to another one of  Grand Theft Auto 6's potential gangs. Rockstar featured true-to-life 3D modes of all of GTA 5's protagonists, so this could be its chance to bring back one of the most beloved Grand Theft Auto: Vice City celebrity cameos on current-gen platforms.
