A modder has parodied Rockstar's newly released Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition, recreating its maligned thick low-quality rain effect that plagues all three remasters as a classic DOOM mod. While modders have stepped in to improve the remastered collection's PC version since its initial release, issues regarding the GTA trilogy remaster across all platforms seem to be growing every day, as fans have taken to social media to mock its numerous bugs, inconsistencies, and lack of polish that deem it unplayable. Unfortunately, its rocky launch worsened, as the GTA trilogy remasters PC version was subsequently taken down, angering many fans that wanted to refund the collection due to the game being completely deleted from libraries without consent.

Though the collection returned to the Rockstar Launcher with an update that fixed numerous issues, a single controversial issue continues to plague the Definitive Edition. A "fake rain" effect that looks like a screen filter is making it hard for players to navigate the GTA trilogy remaster due to significant visibility issues that heavily obscure or disappear its environments completely. Modders however quickly jumped on the issue and have created fixes for the Definitive Edition that lighten the effect or make it more subtle. Sadly, while PC players can now enjoy the remastered collection without the troubling thick rain strands, console players must wait for an official patch from Rockstar Games, which is expected sometime soon.

Posted on Twitter by Nash Muhandes, the modder and developer shared the new DOOM mod that blatantly mocks the Definitive Edition's annoying rain effect. The downloadable "Definitive Rain Edition" WAD is exclusively on ZDoom and adds an obscured rain filter similar to the GTA trilogy remasters to classic DOOM. In the short clip, the player is seen shooting rounds at demons before quickly dying due to the rain filter blurring their vision and its sound effect being louder than the original game. Seemingly the modder adds to the fun by stating that all other mods should be thrown away as "you'll want THIS in your autoload."

Despite Rockstar Games announcing that the remaster collection would be updated and improved upon over time, buyers have been flooding Rockstar‘s support to ask for their money back. Oddly, consumers are being met with unresolved delays or rejected inquires and have taken to different measures. Every version of the Definitive Edition has now been review-bombed on Metacritic and user review scores across multiple platforms are now sitting below a 1.0, making it one of the worst launched titles of 2021.

Numerous modders have stepped in to fix the infamous rain effect but some are mocking it with their own creations for laughs. Although found to be absurd and ridiculous, the effect has caused numerous players to quit playing entirely and should be considered a priority fix for an upcoming update for the game.
