The first official look at the Nintendo Switch version of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition has been released via new screenshots. For the most part, the screenshots look largely similar to other versions of the Grand Theft Auto trilogy's installments, but there are some noticeable disparities upon closer inspection. There is anticipation around how the GTA trilogy's graphics will compare to its previous versions, with steadily released trailers and teasers revealing more and more of the soon-to-be-released final product.

Rockstar recently confirmed the GTA trilogy will release on November 11, the previous slot for the now-delayed Grand Theft Auto 5 remaster. The latter game has been pushed to March 2022, seemingly allowing Rockstar the ability to release the GTA trilogy sooner than planned. The trilogy will feature updated versions of Grand Theft Auto 3Vice City, and San Andreas, allowing players to experience these installments with all-new graphics and controls.

Courtesy of Rockstar Games (via the GTANet official Twitter account), the first Nintendo Switch screenshots for the GTA trilogy released. The new screenshots showcase all three games on the Nintendo console, and there are some subtle differences in the quality. The faces of the characters look a little rougher and less detailed, possibly as a compromise to make the game run smoothly on the platform. That said, fans already criticized the GTA trilogy's graphics following the drop of a recent trailer, noting the remaster looks too cartoonish. The graphics largely resemble a more updated version of the trilogy's original aesthetic, which didn't sport as realistic of an appearance as recent Rockstar titles.

The remastered GTA trilogy will be the first time these three games appear on a Nintendo platform. Outside of Grand Theft Auto Advanced and Chinatown Wars, the series has never been available on Nintendo consoles. A few modern Rockstar games such as Bully, Manhunt 2, and LA Noire have appeared on the Wii and Nintendo Switch, but Rockstar largely focuses on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. Whether or not the trilogy will open the door to more Rockstar games on Nintendo platforms remains to be seen.

The GTA trilogy can be pre-loaded on Xbox and Nintendo Switch already, allowing players to prepare for the game's imminent launch. Rockstar has yet to release any raw gameplay for the trilogy, so it's unclear how many changes have been made to the feel of the game. Rockstar confirmed the trilogy will include "GTA 5-inspired controls", though it's unclear what that means or if it will have any dramatic impact on its mechanics. Rockstar is reportedly planning a remaster of Red Dead Redemption after the GTA trilogy, so it'll be worth seeing if the acclaimed studio makes some compromises to get it on Nintendo Switch as well.
