There are all sorts of vehicles that players can steal in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas such as cars, bikes, and airplanes, but one of the more unique vehicles is the jetpack. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas ventures into sci-fi territory, as the jetpack not only offers unparalleled mobility but also endless supplies of fuel.

The jetpack is more of a joke vehicle than a serious travel option. It does show up in the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas story, but only at certain moments. It was designed to let players have fun with the game, rather than to be a major part of the plot. After all, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is set in the 1990s, and this jetpack still works better than the ones available today.

There are a few different ways to get the jetpack in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, both legitimately and through cheat codes. Since it is very maneuverable, and since players can use some weapons while flying it, it is useful for getting some collectibles and during the more difficult sections of the game.

The first way players can get the jetpack in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is through a story mission. In the mission, "Black Project," protagonist CJ meets up with The Truth, a conspiracy theorist and Willie Nelson look-alike who tells CJ about a secret government project he believes is happening nearby.

This happens in the middle of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas' long story. CJ has been forced to leave Los Santos and has journeyed across the state of San Andreas to Bone County in the desert surrounding Las Venturas. The secret project is in Area 69, and, as CJ infiltrates the base, he learns that the project is an experimental jetpack. He uses it to escape from the base and flies it back to The Truth.

Later, the Truth calls him again which unlocks the mission "Green Goo." This mission has CJ using the jetpack to launch an attack on a heavily protected train to steal some cargo: a jar of mysterious green goo. Completing the mission means that the jetpack is available at the Verdant Meadows Airfield.

The other way to get the jetpack is through inputting cheat codes. They vary depending on which platform players are using. The codes to use per platform appear below:

  • PC: Type rocketman while playing the game
  • PlayStation consoles: L1, L2, R1, R2, Up, Down, Left, Right, L1, L2, R1, R2, Up, Down, Left, Right.

  • Nintendo Switch: L, ZL, R, ZR, Up, Down, Left, Right, L, ZL, R, ZR, Up, Down, Left, Right.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will release on other platforms soon, including a VR version, but the cheat codes to unlock the jetpack in these versions are currently unknown.
