Grand Theft Auto Online's next major update could be on the way, seeing as new information from a prominent dataminer reveals a new music-themed expansion featuring rapper and producer Dr. Dre. Rumors of Dr. Dre's return to the series recently began circulating, as fellow famed West Coast rapper Snoop Dogg claimed the artist was in the studio working on new music for an upcoming Grand Theft Auto project. This led to several speculations by fans that the project could possibly be Grand Theft Auto 6 or a sequel to San Andreas, as Dr. Dre contributed music to previous Grand Theft Auto titles.

While both renowned rappers' tracks can be heard in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online's radio stations, Dr. Dre is the only one who makes a physical cameo in the series. During the "Heist Prep: Gather Intel" mission in the GTA Online Cayo Perico Heist introduced a year ago, Dr. Dre makes an appearance in the very first cutscene. During the cutscene, the player is informed that Dr. Dre's car is stolen, along with his phone which had a lot of unreleased music. This could have been a hint at a future collaboration and update to the game, with recent developments strengthening this theory.

Posted on Twitter by known dataminer and leaker Tez2 (via Real Sport 101), Grand Theft Auto Online's next expansion codenamed "Fixers" could feature a collaboration with Dr. Dre. The leaker claims Dr. Dre will reprise his role after returning from Cayo Perico to team up with players to launch a new music production company in Los Santos. Similar to previous in-game businesses (and while the company and update might be ultimately music-centered), players might be able to run another underground operation that will feature a brand-new series of missions with heist-style setups to help grow the workplace.

Despite revealing the upcoming update and its minor details, Tez2 previously claimed that all future updates for Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online could be delayed due to  Rockstar Games' effort to fix the GTA trilogy remasters following their disastrous launch. The maligned remastered collection released earlier this month and received overwhelmingly negative impressions, even before its official launch. A litany of glitches and bugs continue to plague each title and Rockstar Games promised to improve them with future updates.

The addition of Dr. Dre and new music-themed features could lead to more celebrity cameos and exclusive Grand Theft Auto V albums in the future. Though the "Fixers" seems similar to the After Hours update with a music studio instead of a club, the new expansion could lead to new partnerships with real musicians looking to debut exclusive or new music inside the online sandbox. It's unknown and unconfirmed if the update will be coming any time soon, but players can hopefully look forward to it before 2022.
