Rockstar has revealed that Grand Theft Auto Online is getting a summer update next week that will add a host of new content to the multiplayer title. GTA Online has become one of gaming's most lucrative products. Despite launching several months after the release of Grand Theft Auto V,  the online mode has proved incredibly successful and continues to see increases both in terms of player base and sales.

The developer regularly updates GTA Online to ensure that it never becomes stale. It is not unusual for Rockstar to add extra items and vehicles to the game, although the studio also produces new missions. In some cases, GTA Online has also been expanded with significant updates that introduce additional areas or locations to the experience, such as the Diamond Casino & Resort last year.

A brand-new summer update is arriving for GTA Online next week. Rockstar announced the extra content in a blog post on the company's official site, revealing that it will release on August 11, 2020. Some of the upcoming additions include co-op missions that can be launched from a Super Yacht, extra Open Wheel Races, and a wide range of new vehicles that can be bought in-game. The Diamond Casino & Resort is also getting more Adversary Modes while Business Battles are being expanded to different areas.  Furthermore, players will be able to create their own Open Wheel street circuits with an editor, on top of a variety of bug fixes and minor technical improvements.

Rockstar and publisher Take-Two recently revealed that GTA Online is set to receive exclusive content on next-gen consoles when Grand Theft Auto V launches for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Exactly what type of content this will be is unclear so far but it seems likely it will include additional missions and vehicles that cannot be accessed through other versions of the game.  However, those playing on PC will be able to play this exclusive content as well.

The addition of even more content for GTA Online is great news for those who are invested in the ecosystem. Rockstar has done a great job of keeping the multiplayer version of Grand Theft Auto V relevant in recent years, making sure there is a regular supply of missions, vehicles, and modes. It will also reassure players that the developer is not going to abandon those playing on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with the release of next-gen consoles at the end of 2020.
