Grand Theft Auto Online is celebrating the Halloween season in style in a new update filled with special events, costumes, and item discounts. Rockstar Games' massive multiplayer sandbox title has been operating since 2013, and it’s become a home away from home for many players who've been there from the beginning, and newcomers looking for ways to get out and socialize during the COVID-19 lockdowns that have been ongoing for much of the year.

From brightly-colored alien turf wars to movie reenactments to hilarious aircraft stunts gone wrong, there has been no shortage of excitement for fans of Grand Theft Auto Online in the past few months, and the game's highly publicized free offer on the Epic Games Store increased its player count by 245 percent in May. Not even issues like a troublesome in-game economy, hackers randomly filling people's game worlds with strange objects, or even Rockstar itself forgetting GTA Online’s seventh anniversary have stopped fans from enjoying the vast virtual world of Los Santos, and now it looks like things will get a bit spookier in the coming days thanks to a new giveaway event.

In a press release earlier today, Rockstar Games announced the launch of a special Halloween-themed update for Grand Theft Auto Online dubbed the “Halloween Bunker Series.” This hefty content drop contains new Adversary Modes like Come Out to Play, Condemned, Lost vs. Damned, and Slasher (which will reward players who complete them with double or even triple money and experience points), Peyote Plants that will allow players to transform into animals, free Orange Dot Tech Mask and Lemon Sports Tracksuit cosmetic items, discounts on all Halloween-themed vehicles, and the return of the previously available Annis S80RR supercar.

GTA Online isn’t the only game to start getting into the Halloween spirit lately. Late last month, Animal Crossing: New Horizons kicked off an October-themed event as part of its fall update, which added spooky new furniture and a hidden NPC named Jack The Halloween Czar to Nintendo’s popular town-life simulator for a limited time. Other big titles like Fortnite and Borderlands 3 also have in-game Halloween events planned, allowing players to celebrate the haunting holiday from the comfort of their own living rooms.

Grand Theft Auto Online is gearing up to draw players in with its own Halloween-themed content, especially after its Los Santos Summer Special update was very successful earlier this year. The Halloween Bunker Series is now available to anyone who logs in to Grand Theft Auto Online, meaning that players can jump right into the October festivities in the sandbox of Los Santos starting today.
