Rockstar Games is celebrating the holidays in both Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online with free gifts, powdery snowfall, and more. The last several months have seen Rockstar make a concerted effort to bring more content to each of the two online modes, especially Red Dead Online, which had long suffered a content drought. This holiday season seems a perfect excuse for adding in even more extras.

Grand Theft Auto Online in particular isn't hurting for new content, though, as Rockstar just recently rolled out the sizable Cayo Perico Heist update for players. It's billed as the game's biggest update yet, offering up a new night club and a host of additional music tracks. Of course, the gorgeous private island acts as the Cayo Perico update's biggest draw. Meanwhile, Red Dead Online recently greatly expanded the Bounty Hunter and Naturalist roles, adding plenty of new bounties, Legendary Animals, and extra bonuses to the experience. For the holiday season, though, players across both titles can focus their attention on something with a seasonal quality to it.

Upon signing on to GTA Online, players will be greeted with fresh snow covering the ground in San Andreas, with local businesses and vendors decorated for the holidays and selling items of the festive variety. According to Rockstar Games, there's even a Christmas tree in Legion Square players that fans may want to check out after getting a good look at the seasonal bits and baubles that adorn their in-game Penthouses. From today until December 30, the nimble Grotti Brioso 300 will be available to pick up from Southern San Andreas Super Autos for free. During this same time frame, playing GTA Online will earn players access to the following gifts:

  • Vibrant Stitch Emissive Mask
  • Red Bleeder Festive Sweater
  • Green Cluckin' Festive Sweater
  • Tartan Livery for the Ocelot Ardent, Buckingham Akula and Karin Technical Custom
  • Candy Cane Livery for the Comet Safari, HVY APC and HVY Insurgent Pick-Up Custom
  • Care package containing the Firework Launcher, 20 Firework Rockets, a full supply of Snacks and Armor, 25 Sticky Bombs, 25 Grenades, 10 Proximity Mines and 10 Molotovs

Rockstar also revealed that Red Dead Online has received its own seasonal gifts. Saint Denis is especially embracing the holidays, with its streets and vendors decked with holiday décor. Heavy snowfall won't make navigating the festive landscape easy, but visiting the Pause Menu's Benefits Page unlocks free gifts that help players brave the weather. These include a coupon for a free coat and another for a free Repeater. Fortunately, local Gunsmiths will also be handing out "the brand-new Winter Evans Repeater variant gratis" to all who stop by their shops this week. New Turkoman horses have joined the game, as well, along with what Rockstar is calling Festive Showdowns - which involves "festive renditions of modes like Make It Count." Finally, players should make room in their busy schedules for more role bonuses and holiday discounts.

GTA Online and Red Dead Online aren't strangers to awarding players with seasonal bonus content. For instance, Halloween-centric extras are now expected of both, and the same goes for each holiday season. Evidently, enough players are hopping aboard each year to warrant Rockstar's continued support of such festivities.

Things are a bit different for Red Dead Online this time around, however. Earlier this month, Rockstar launched a standalone version of Red Dead Online, meaning players no longer needed access to Red Dead Redemption 2 in order to enjoy its online component. It stands to reason this holiday season may see an uptick in terms of user turnout, especially since the standalone will maintain a $4.99 price tag until February.
