A Grand Theft Auto Online player recently pulled off one of the most impressive heists ever: stealing another player’s jet plane in midair, then flying off in it without breaking a sweat. Rockstar Games’ online multiplayer sandbox has had no shortage of in-game hijinks over the past few months, either in the form of mods or players getting into mischief within the game’s parameters.

One of the most prominent examples of this was the highly-documented GTA Online alien gang war back in May, involving two groups of players dressed like brightly-colored extraterrestrials fighting it out in the virtual streets of Los Santos. Other wild tales of imaginative player interaction have included hackers breaking into people's single-player saves and filling their worlds with giant UFOs, modders adding giant ramps for cars and semi-trucks to jump off of, and multiple daring pilots flying their fighter jets into Fort Zancudo tunnel at the same time. As it turns out, this last stunt was just the beginning of the aircraft-related festivities in Grand Theft Auto Online’s world of mischief and mayhem.

Reddit user Brooksy925 posted a gameplay video to the GTA Online subreddit yesterday, depicting a player stealing a Hydra jet in mid-flight. The plane-jacker starts this off by flying in above the Hydra on an Oppressor Mk II cycle then jumps off, parachutes down to the Hydra, and finally knocks out the unlucky pilot to secure the British jet plane as a prize. Reddit users in the comments were impressed by this, with several of drawing comparisons to the 1994 Arnold Schwarzenegger film True Lies.

Grand Theft Auto Online has been enjoying an increased surge of popularity this year, thanks to a mixture of both events like the aforementioned alien gang war and the Epic Games Store making both GTA Online and its parent game, Grand Theft Auto 5, free to download and keep for a week back in May. While this has led to an increase of hackers targeting the game, fans have been enjoying the open-world escapism that GTA Online provides, especially with the recent COVID-19 outbreak forcing everyone to stay home for most of 2020.

There seems to be no limit to what players can do in the frantic world of Grand Theft Auto Online, as evidenced by the numerous gameplay videos of fans pulling off increasingly crazy feats within the game’s sandbox framework. This recent mid-air theft of a Hydra jet is just another example of this, showing off the level of skill and creativity within Grand Theft Auto Online’s community.
