A 30-second Grand Theft Auto Online clip is making the rounds online, featuring two players trying to perfectly position themselves for a good selfie before an unexpected turn of events takes hold. Of course, GTA Online players are all too familiar with their spontaneous ideas taking a turn for the worse. One player a few months ago had to learn the hard way that jetpacks in GTA's multiplayer suite should never be abandoned mid-air.

Over the last several years, GTA Online has played host to millions upon millions of players, many of whom undoubtedly get their kicks from experimenting with the crazy antics made possible by the game's myriad mechanics. Despite the title's age, Rockstar Games' ongoing support has yet to waver. Late last year, in fact, the studio unleashed the Cayo Perico Heist, a massive update that introduced an exotic heist locale, guest DJs, a submarine base, new weapons, and additional social areas. A number of weekly updates have supplemented the online experience in the months since the Cayo Perico Heist's release, but players continue to find ways of making their own fun, too.

Reddit user Thomasachu recently shared a quick clip from GTA Online wherein two players are seen trying to take a selfie. As one fiddles with the camera, the other player twists and turns their character in an effort to perfectly position themselves in frame. But before the two are able to align for the perfect shot, a helicopter barrels in from off-screen and immediately blasts the previously fidgeting character a good distance away. It's a startling sight, but the player character miraculously stands back up after the accident, seemingly unharmed.

This may count among one of the more shocking GTA Online incidents in recent memory. And, as many a fan knowns, there are plenty. What's unclear in the above video though is whether or not the crash was intentional. The trajectory of the helicopter suggests the two beach-going players were a target, but it could have simply been a case of the player in the cockpit losing control.

Grand Theft Auto V originally hits stores for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013. No doubt, the unceasing popularity of GTA Online has contributed to the game's unprecedented success. Since launch, the fifth mainline GTA entry has sold a monumental 140 million units worldwide. That number will certainly continue to climb, especially since PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S ports are in the works.
