A Grand Theft Auto Online player proved this week just how accurately Rockstar Games depicted the real city of Los Angeles in Grand Theft Auto 5's Los Santos map. During a recent trip to LA, the gamer snapped a few photos of some of the real-life buildings featured in GTA Online's virtual city and shared the images on Reddit alongside some in-game comparison shots.

GTA Online launched in 2013 as the standalone online multiplayer component to Grand Theft Auto 5. The game took place in San Andreas, California, with maps in both the San Andreas countryside and the city of Los Santos. Los Santos was a purely fictional location, but Rockstar Games based the city on Los Angeles, California. Key landmarks from Los Angeles could be seen in the game. Fans of Rockstar Games will know that the studio often draws inspiration from real locations for its video games, including Red Dead Redemption 2 and other Grand Theft Auto installments.

Some Los Angeles landmarks were altered slightly in GTA Online. For instance, the game's Vinewood sign was based on the real Hollywood sign, but it obviously did not say "Hollywood" in GTA Online. Other landmarks, like the ones Reddit user DylanP3692 visited (via Dexerto), were nearly identical to their GTA Online recreations. A few locations they stumbled on included Del Perro Heights, Maze Bank West, and Eclipse Towers.

DylanP3692 shared the real images of the three buildings alongside their GTA Online locations. As it turns out, Del Perro Heights is an office building in real life, not an apartment complex. Still, Rockstar Games did a great job replicating the building in the game, right down to the building's unique curves. Meanwhile, Los Santos' Maze Bank West is a bank under a different name in Los Angeles. Again, the buildings are very similar, though Rockstar did adjust the placement of the in-game building's sign. Finally, they spotted the real-life Sierra Towers, a 27-story luxury apartment building that served as inspiration for GTA Online's Eclipse Towers.

DylanP3692 found just a few examples of Rockstar Games' dedication to accuracy in its Grand Theft Auto maps. The amount of detail that went into replicating countless Los Angeles buildings is worthy of applause. Plus, fans love to see these kinds of details. Not only does it make GTA Online feel authentic, but it also serves as a fun activity for fans visiting the real city. How many buildings from the game can they spot?
