A fan of GTA Online reignited the community's demand for faster load times with a clever meme on Reddit, sparking yet another discussion among players who think that the title's glacial load-in pace leaves something to be desired. GTA Online is a seven year-old game at this point, and many of its features have begun to show their age, but some more than others are especially difficult to stomach given recent technological breakthroughs and priorities.

In spite of being one of the older popular titles on the market today, however, GTA Online remains an example of how well-designed online infrastructure and constant updates can extend a game's longevity well beyond developer expectations. As recently as a few months ago, GTA Online alien wars were the talk of the gaming community, with players swearing allegiance to either the green or purple alien gangs and then sowing chaos throughout the game's streets in turf wars. The entirely player-driven initiative captivated audiences on Twitch and in-game, and, complemented by Rockstar's slow drip of content, continued to prove GTA Online's staying power - something that developer Rockstar Games is doubling down on one more time, as it announced Grand Theft Auto 5 would be coming to PlayStation 5.

Still, that interest doesn't mean that GTA Online load times aren't something that could use a lot of work - as pointed out in a very slightly NSFW meme made by Reddit user 420Grapes. The gif takes the "guys only want one thing" meme template and uses it to show off a sped-up GTA Online load time of just a few seconds, and the response from other fans has been humorous, to say the least. It's also prompted discussion of just why it takes GTA Online so long to load, with various users explaining how internet speeds have little to do with the issue, which is more rooted in the way that GTA Online is coded.

It's also worth noting that, depending on the performance of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in general, GTA Online might actually finally get some better load times after all. It's probably not as simple as relying on the PS5's revolutionary SSD setup, but the device's ability to process load times at a speed previously considered unthinkable in gaming might at least contribute to quicker GTA Online load times, even if some of the problem is present in multiplayer coding or other back-end decisions.

Even if that doesn't happen, it's not like GTA Online load times being longer than fans want has hampered the game much in any way. GTA Online remains one of the earliest examples of the promise of long-term online update plans in gaming, something that has since propelled Fortnite into one of the most popular games in the world. It's also a clear demonstration of how an overall great service means fans are less likely to harbor ill will towards certain features, and are instead satisfied by poking fun at them through cynical GTA Online memes.
