A Grand Theft Auto Online glitch has allowed one crafty player to breathe underwater. The open-world multiplayer crime game launched back in 2013, but developer Rockstar Games has continued to support GTA Online with updates and new content.
GTA Online is a massive title, and its size and scope have only grown as Rockstar continues adding new content. The open-world franchise's gameplay is kept largely intact for its online multiplayer installment, with players able to commit various crimes or just spread general havoc. The addition of rival players dramatically changes the experience, however, leading to cooperation or violent competition between individuals. As a part of the most recent update, Rockstar Games added a Lost MC robbery and Emperor Vectre car among other new challenges and rewards for GTA Online players.
A Reddit user and inventive GTA Online player, Name-Numerous, has found an unusual way to breathe underwater in the game. The posted video shows the player drive up to the shore before exiting their vehicle and using a weapon to blow the door off. Shooting the door to move it closer to the water, Name-Numerous stands on the car door and then uses it as a sled to slide down into the water. The player character does not begin to drown, however, probably because they are technically standing rather than swimming. This allows Name-Numerous to stay underwater indefinitely, even pulling out and firing a rocket launcher, as long as they do not move off of the door.
Grand Theft Auto Online was released almost eight years ago, so it's no surprise that players have achieved some truly remarkable feats in that time. Breathtaking race times and insane killstreaks are bound to occur in a game that is both long-running and highly popular. For example, a GTA Online player recently managed to turn a ridiculous jump into an incredible parking job using equal parts skill and luck. The player's car goes flying when it hits a cliff, but it just happens to land on a road and flip right between two parked cars.
GTA Online players are always full of surprises, often pulling off unbelievable stunts or unveiling bizarre glitches. Name-Numerous' ability to breathe underwater may seem quite useful, but their inability to walk off of the car door means that the trick is really just for fun. Without a scuba tank to swim around without drowning the car door trick is a simple, but very amusing, novelty.
