Fans are finding new fun ways to play GTA Online, with a new challenge that tasks players with walking across a player-filled map without dying having recently emerged. Grand Theft Auto V's multiplayer component has been the game of choice for a dedicated batch of players for many years now. Rockstar has supported the community with constant updates, including heists, high-stakes casinos, hovercrafts, and harrowing parachute races. However, part of the fun in any open-world game involves making fun out of nothing, especially when the world is as detailed as one from the artists at Rockstar. Therefore it's no surprise that fans continue to ignore official objectives and challenge themselves in the city they've come to know like the back of their hand.

Ever since an unknowing game developer first told a reporter that they could indeed walk to a far off mountain, players have wanted to test the limits of every open-world map. Early on, it was simply to see where the invisible walls were or which sheer cliffs could be scaled using only awkward hopping. With the advent of multiplayer in games like Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2, these types of adventures morph from lonesome quests for achievement into actual challenges. Throwing in the chaos of other humans means players never know what will impede their progress or take you out.

CordialTrekkie on Reddit is one of several fans attempting to jog across the entire GTA Online map without meeting their maker. Putting aside the sheer size of the map, the challenge comes in avoiding other players armed with all manner of weaponry and looking to enjoy a little target practice. Thankfully, the challenge rules state that participants can defend themselves with a shotgun or their fist. We don't see CordialTrekkie pull out a boomstick, but there is a fistfight or two in their recorded attempt to go from the docks to an island on the edge of the world.

There are three attempts in total in the video, each one getting closer and closer to the reported end goal. Along the way, CordialTrekkie takes advantage of a passing train, tries to avoid two hovercraft gentlemen that spot them from on high, and runs into several passing cars with comical efficiency. While there might be some reason for a referee to check the tape near the end since jogging and swimming aren't the same thing, the player eventually reaches the island in one fell swoop.

GTA Online is a fascinating game that serves its audience well. Despite humble beginnings, it's truly morphed into everything people might have wanted from a multiplayer open world, and 2K Games are still raking in the money years after its initial debut. While its continued success may make some worry about the prospect of Rockstar making more full-fledged single-player games in the future, the fact that such a dense game world can exist on multiple generations of console and PC is an accomplishment onto itself. Here's hoping that Rockstar continues to learn from the community and gives players who go on this long trek a fitting reward in the future.
