Grand Theft Auto 5 has a massive roleplay community, and for thousands of players roleplay gives the game more meaning and a fresh lease of life. But with so many roleplay servers to choose from, all with varying gameplay styles and rules, it can be difficult to choose the best one.

It has been more than seven years since Grand Theft Auto 5 released and the game is showing no signs of slowing down, despite fans still eagerly awaiting the launch of GTA 6, which so far has no release date. With new content still being added to GTA Online, including a brand new heist on a new island, Rockstar Games are showing no signs of slowing down. They're even releasing a remastered version of Grand Theft Auto 5 onto the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles.

The game's popularity has not waned on YouTube either, with GTA 5 seeing a massive increase of 30 billion in 2020 on the 2019 viewing numbers, taking the number of YouTube views for GTA 5 in 2020 to 70 billion, and making GTA 5 the 4th most viewed video game of the year. This continued success is in part down to the success of GTA Online roleplay, with videos of popular creators roleplaying frequently garnering millions of views each.

The Best Roleplay Server & How to Use It

GTA Online Roleplay Characters

There are thousands of roleplay servers in GTA Online to choose from, and deciding which one is the best for any given player will depend on what that player is looking for, including things like timezone and language, the seriousness of the roleplay, etc. All of this makes it important for players wanting to delve into roleplay to explore and find out what is best for them in order to have the best roleplay experience they can have.

That being said, one of the best general GTA Online roleplay servers is EclipseRP. EclipseRP is an English-speaking community roleplay server with over a hundred players online pretty much all the time. The server offers players the chance to use proximity-based voice chats through the game, or text chat if that's what they'd prefer. EclipseRP has an active development team and boasts a wide range of great GTA Online roleplay features including a vibrant economy with lots of job options, an active police force with a fully-fledged justice system, custom emotes and commands that allow players to full immerse themselves in the game, and much, much more.

Joining EclipseRP is quite straight forward and is a similar process to joining almost all GTA RP servers. The only thing that can significantly differ between joining servers is whether or not a whitelist is necessary. Some servers, like those frequented by big-name YouTubers, are not open to anyone and require players to fill out sometimes lengthy applications detailing things like a planned character and asking questions to see whether the applicant understands the rules before being allowed to play. EclipseRP is one of those servers that requires players to pass a short application before playing, but it's relatively simple and is just there to ensure players understand the rules.

In order to play EclipseRP (or almost any other roleplay server in GTA Online), players will have to download a modded client. There are two popular modded clients for GTA; FiveM and RageMP. EclipseRP uses the RageMP client. Once the RageMP is installed, launch the client and look for the EclipseRP server in the server list. Upon connecting players are asked to create an account and then take a short quiz in order to show they understand the rules. Once the quiz is submitted players can expect to receive a response over email within 24 hours letting them know whether or not they've been accepted onto the server.

Once players are on the server they're able to immediately start custom GTA freelance jobs such as selling tacos or delivering packages to earn money. There are lots of commands to learn in order to fully experience EclipseRP. Opening the in-game chat in GTA Online and typing /help will display a menu showing players all available commands and describing what each command does.
