Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto V made an appearance in the background of a Tamil-language action film. An eagle-eyed fan spotted a glimpse of the map from GTA V in the background of the film Singam 3, an action film released in 2017. Grand Theft Auto is an incredibly popular franchise and has been referenced in pop culture on numerous occasions - even within other games, like Cyberpunk 2077.

Earlier this year, it was reported that GTA V has sold 150 million copies, making it one of the best-selling games of all time. It's been a global phenomenon since launching in 2013 and even though there have been multiple console generations since the game was released, it has maintained its longevity. Eight years past its release, Rockstar is still releasing new updates for the game and will continue to for years to come with the new remasters.

Twitter user Rahul14BEN133 posted a screenshot from the Tamil-language film Singam 3 and noted that a section of Grand Theft Auto V's map can be seen in the background. The scene takes place in a police control room, so it's likely just one of multiple maps reflecting the bureau's domain scattered around the room. That said, GTA V fans were still able to spot the game's map in the scene. The section of the map seen in the film is around the upper right-hand side of Los Santos, around where Vinewood Casino is located.

Rockstar is planning to release a remastered version of GTA V in 2022, so the franchise is pushing forward despite a lack of new material. Whether or not more filmmakers choose to use the game in the background of their films remains to be seen, but it is a funny inclusion. It's unclear if the brief appearance of GTA V was cleared by Rockstar, but the game is not mentioned in the credits. Given how inconsequential it seems to be, Rockstar may not choose to do anything about it if even permission wasn't given.

Rockstar has a lot on its plate for the foreseeable future and is likely incredibly busy with all of its upcoming projects. Earlier this week, Rockstar confirmed that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is coming to Oculus Quest 2. Rockstar also recently announced that the remastered GTA trilogy will release in November, and there will be new GTA Online content by the end of 2021. On top of all of that, it is heavily rumored that the acclaimed studio is also working on a Grand Theft Auto VI. As a result, the company might be too busy to address the inclusion of Grand Theft Auto V Easter eggs in a movie from several years ago.
