Grand Theft Auto 6 is looking to improve on the past, and bringing an old mechanic from GTA spinoff Chinatown Wars could make it a paradise for fire-loving players. Fire and explosives are some of the most powerful tools in GTA games, but the player often has limited use of them. Despite this, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars found a way to give players easier access to such weapons.

GTA: Chinatown Wars is one of the more eclectic games in the series. As a handheld-only title, the graphics are less impressive than console games, and it is played in a top-down style rather than the usual third-person perspective. Because of this, the differences between this game and the rest of the series are quite obvious, but GTA 6 can still learn from Chinatown Wars nonetheless. Although it plays differently from other games, it still has its fair share of good mechanics, and Huang Lee's story is strong enough to keep players interested until the end.

Combat in Grand Theft Auto games is generally rather straightforward. The player will want to keep themselves hidden behind cover and snipe at enemies when the opportunity presents itself. One of the most fun parts of combat, though, is explosives. Grenades, rockets and the like are excellent tools for destroying enemy vehicles and groups. Of course, blowing things up in general is also a lot of fun, especially in a world like GTA. Unfortunately, explosives and fire are typically quite uncommon, either being scarce with pickups or expensive to buy. This can greatly limit the player's opportunities to use their strongest, flashiest weapons, especially early in the game. With explosives being among GTA Online's best available weapons, one can't be blamed for wanting to use them more often.

GTA 6 Can Make Combat More Exciting With More Fire

Chinatown Wars introduced a way to give players access to explosive weapons early. By driving to a gas station, players could pay up to create some molotov cocktails by pouring glass into bottles. This could give the player a decent bundle of bottles per visit, and at a much cheaper price than one would usually expect for explosive weapons. Since this is revealed to the player early on, they will have the ability to stock up on fiery projectiles throughout the game. The molotovs may be cheap, but they are incredibly effective at clearing out enemies that are clustered together. GTA 6 can learn from other sandbox games, so taking inspiration from its own series seems just as reasonable.

By bringing Chinatown Wars' ability to make quick and cheap molotovs into GTA 6, Rockstar would give that same freedom to use flashy weapons to the series' next generation. It's a simple enough mechanic to be introduced to the player in an early mission, and it could provide plenty of cinematic moments. For example, the player could foil an ambush with a well-timed molotov as the enemies rush through a door, or lob flaming bottles at pursuing vehicles during a car chase. Normally the scarcity of weapons with such firepower discourages such tactics, but an easy source of molotovs could inspire players to get more creative with their explosives. GTA 6 can fulfill Vice City's promise of a truly immersive Miami sandbox, and more molotovs could assist in that endeavor.

All too often, players will avoid using explosive weapons in GTA due to their relative rarity. By incorporating Chinatown Wars' method of easily gaining molotovs, players would be able to be more confident in their use of such weapons. This mechanic alone could make Grand Theft Auto 6 an ideal game for those who love wielding fire against their enemies.
