Although it hasn't even been officially announced, Grand Theft Auto VI rumors continue to circulate as anticipation for the sequel to one of the best-selling games of all time builds, but one that has speculated that popular San Andreas protagonist Carl "CJ" Johnson would return has been shot down. Much like Big Foot sightings in San Andreas, it looks like this this bit of GTA gossip falls firmly into the realm of fiction.

It's been more than six years since the release of Grand Theft Auto V and in that time, publisher Rockstar Games has kept a tight lid on its plans for the next GTA game. Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser briefly mentioned Grand Theft Auto VI in a 2018 interview with GQ, stating that he didn't think the time was right for a new GTA game. However, with GTA V currently sitting as the third best-selling game of all time, it's believed to be only a matter of time before Rockstar officially announces Grand Theft Auto VI.

Unfortunately, it looks like San Andreas fans will have to enjoy GTA 6 without CJ if and when it arrives. As reported by ComicBook.com, Chris Bellard a.k.a. Young MayLay -- the voice of CJ in San Andreas -- recently took to Instagram to settle the matter. Not only did Bellard deny any involvement in the unannounced project, he also took the opportunity to voice his displeasure with Rockstar Games as a whole.

While it's unclear why Bellard has no interest in working with Rockstar again, this isn't the first time a voice actor has expressed disdain for the company. In 2008, Michael Hollick, the actor who voiced Grand Theft Auto IV protagonist Niko Bellic, put Rockstar on blast stating that he was underpaid for his work. Ray Liotta, who voiced GTA: Vice City's Tommy Vercetti, also had bad blood with Rockstar, so it's not all that surprising to see yet another actor who played a GTA protagonist take issue with the company.

Bellard's revelation is sure to come as a disappointment to fans who were hoping to see CJ again, but it doesn't mean the character should be ruled out for GTA VI entirely. As Bellard notes in his Instagram post, CJ could very well be voiced another actor. This scenario definitely seems more likely if CJ isn't the main character, as it's likely that many would take issue with another actor taking CJ for a spin in a larger role. Of course, voice actor replacements aren't anything new for the video game industry. Longtime Solid Snake actor David Hayter was replaced with Kiefer Sutherland in Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain, and both games were still warmly received by critics and fans alike.
