It’s been eight years since the release of Grand Theft Auto 5 and fans have yet to see any information released regarding a sixth installment, so players should stop thinking about Grand Theft Auto 6. The only details that exist for the title are nothing but rumors and speculations, which are created by the public in order to build hype and anticipation for the release of the game. With the critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2 releasing eight years apart from its series debut, fans can only hope for the same to happen with GTA 6.

During those eight years, GTA 5 has seen countless content updates regarding its online mode. Recently with the newest GTA Online update The Contract, players have finally received DLC pertaining to the main story as it highlights its aftermath, following Franklin Clinton and his friend Lamar Davis. With that being said, there is some speculation that more time is still being put in GTA Online than the production of GTA 6.

If anything at all, it’s clear that Rockstar is currently investing everything into GTA Online. The online mode is currently the studio’s cash cow, which grosses around $911 million a year. Since The Contract is the first online DLC that branches off of the main story campaign, it seems logical to assume that more content regarding other characters such as Michael De Santa or Trevor Phillips will come down the line. GTA Online servers for last-gen consoles had shut down on December 16, 2021, which can mean more focus can go into the next-gen player experience when it launches in March of this year.

There's Plenty Grand Theft Auto To Play Before GTA 6's Release Date

The most recent title that Rockstar had put out was the GTA The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, which was a major letdown to some fans due to some graphical, gameplay, and technical bugs. Considering how the trilogy was received, it left some fans concerned about the quality of GTA 6, if it ever releases. While it is disappointing to think about, fans shouldn’t worry and just wait to see what happens next for the franchise. It doesn’t make it easy for them either since GTA 6 wasn't shown at E3 2021 either.

Those holding their breath for GTA 6 can breathe easily because it was rumored that due to Dan Houser leaving Rockstar Studios, development for the title had been set back in 2020. Houser was the head writer for Rockstar Games; therefore, it would make sense for a disruption to take place after his departure. In the meantime, fans should be patient since rushing GTA 6's release date could result in an inferior product.

With time and energy still being put into GTA Online along with the release of the GTA Trilogy, it’s safe to say that Grand Theft Auto 6 may not be coming anytime soon. The longer people continue to wait, the longer it’ll take for an official announcement to come on through. Until the time comes, fans should occupy their time elsewhere instead of waiting for GTA 6 rumors to appear.
