Grand Theft Auto 6 rumors have been swirling for years, but in recent months, the rumors have started to solidify around a few core ideas. Notably, the current best guess says the game will be set in modern-day Vice City. Considering Rockstar Games has revisited old settings in each of its last two games in the GTA franchise, it wouldn't be too surprising to see them explore Vice City again. Another rumor most fans are intrigued by is the game's supposed launch date, and what it could mean for a release on PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles.

According to industry insider Tom Henderson, GTA 6 won't be out until 2024 or 2025. That information should be taken with a hefty grain of salt, however, considering that Rockstar hasn't publicly said anything about the game. Henderson claimed that GTA 6 has been pushed back to that window because Rockstar wants to prioritize its employee's health. That is, of course, an admirable reason to delay a game, especially considering how much Rockstar has been rumored to crunch in the past.

It does beg the question of which platforms Grand Theft Auto 6 will eventually come to. If the game does actually launch in 2024 or 2025, it would be expected on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. The two consoles will have been out for around four or five years at that point, putting them firmly in their middle years. However, it would not be surprising to see Rockstar delay the games to a later window - given the COVID-19 pandemic has affected nearly every industry.

When Grand Theft Auto 6  May Release On PS5 And Xbox Series X

Rockstar could announce a 2025 release sometime in the next few years, but that also means it could still need to delay the game. Fans will remember that Red Dead Redemption 2 was delayed twice after originally being announced for the second half of 2017. It's very plausible that Grand Theft Auto 6 could get similar treatment, and fans might not see the game for several more years after the rumored release window.

Most likely, this doesn't mean GTA 6 will be pushed so far out that it doesn't come to PS5 and Xbox Series X. The last generation of consoles ran for seven years before next-gen consoles came out. And developers are still supporting those consoles with cross-gen releases. At worst, it seems like GTA 6 might be a cross-gen title.

It's unlikely Rockstar goes fifteen or more years between releases in its flagship franchise. For the developer, there's just too much money on the table. GTA 5 is one of the best-selling games of all time. Not following that up with a sequel in the next few years would be a major mistake from Rockstar. With that in mind, it looks like Grand Theft Auto 6 will likely release sometime in the next few years.
