Rockstar Games is known for its huge budgets and game series that are successful for decades on end. Their newest release, Red Dead Redemption 2, came out five years after Grand Theft Auto 5. Even though the two games are completely different series with different plots, they do have some similarities (and some major differences). Both of these AAA games are classics, but some still prefer one over the other. However, there are a few things that Red Dead Redemption 2 does better than GTA 5.

Although Red Dead Redemption 2 may be lacking in some areas, there are a lot of different mechanics and gameplay features that make up for it and make the game an enjoyable experience. For example, even though GTA 5 has some humorous and fun side missions, RDR2 has great writing and storytelling, which allows the side missions to have more meaning and impact on the player. Playing through these side missions can allow the player to dig deeper into the virtual world.

Overall, Red Dead Redemption 2's immersion is much better than it is in GTA 5. The player can talk to and interact with everybody in the environment, and the towns feel full of people. RDR2's music choice may also add to this feeling of immersion. Although GTA 5 may have a host of different radio stations to jam to, RDR2's music adds emotion to the overall atmosphere of the game, making it a much more memorable experience.

Another thing that makes Red Dead Redemption 2 so much more immersive is the game's cast of characters. While in GTA 5 the characters simply represent different kinds of personality traits, RDR2's Van der Linde gang members have more complex and unique characteristics. This is, again, a result of the amazing writing RDR2 has, which can hopefully only get better as Rockstar releases more games in the series.

Because of the five year gap between games, Red Dead Redemption 2 also has better graphics, portraying its western world in full HD quality. That's not to say that GTA 5's graphics are bad, especially with the re-release on current gen consoles, but RDR2's animations, models, and lighting greatly surpass those of GTA 5. It's fair to say RDR2 is still one of the best-looking games available right now, and it came out a few years ago.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the best games for Western fans available, and it contains one of the most complete and impacting stories in gaming. Players will feel the emotional impact that this game gives off throughout the entire story, and anyone who hasn't tried it out yet definitely needs to. Even with all these upgrades from GTA 5, Rockstar will likely keep working on making Red Dead Redemption 2 an overall great experience.
