According to a new rumor, Rockstar Games may delay the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Grand Theft Auto 5 by up to two months. Rockstar unleashed a first look at GTA 5's PlayStation 5 upgrade during the September 2021 PlayStation Showcase. Though the enhanced version originally bore a November 2021 due date, the gameplay trailer in question ended with news of a delay. Thus, the top-selling Grand Theft Auto entry will now migrate to new-gen consoles on an unspecified date in March of this year.

Notably, fans didn't respond well to the gameplay trailer. While the lightning-fast character swapping did indeed manage to impress, players were expecting much more of a visual overhaul. The graphics look cleaner compared to the PS4 release but seem on par with the title's nearly seven-year-old PC iteration, raising questions about the quality of the new-gen port. Now it appears as if GTA 5's enhanced edition will spend a few more weeks in the oven.

As spotted by GamesRadar, Brazilian dataminer Matheusvictorbr posted a tweet over the weekend claiming to have heard that Grand Theft Auto 5's PS5 upgrade is facing development complications. The new-gen ports presently remain on track for a March 2022 launch; however, the dataminer added that if the unidentified issues persist, Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive may delay the enhanced edition to April or May. Matheusvictorbr's tweet on the matter ends with the note that Rockstar will likely share an article about the upgrades sometime soon.

Per usual, all of the above should be taken with a grain of salt since there currently exists no corroborating information. There's also no word about when exactly Rockstar and Take-Two plan on sharing new details about Grand Theft Auto 5's Expanded and Enhanced editions. It's possible the companies are mindfully taking their time this go around, given the poor state in which Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition launched late last year.

The aforementioned gameplay trailer touted the upgrade's improved graphics and enhanced gameplay, yet stopped short of offering specifics. According to a German PlayStation Blog post from last August, though, players can expect Rockstar Games' award-winning adventure to run at 4K in 60 frames per second on the new hardware.
