Thanks to Rockstar Games Social Club, PS4 and Xbox One players can begin transferring their Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online save progress in preparation for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions. Rockstar Games announced the current-gen upgrades nearly two years ago, with their original release windows set for late 2021.

The enhanced editions of GTA 5 and GTA Online notably boast several graphical and performance improvements, allowing players to experience the open-world epic in up to 4K resolution, with higher frame rates, ray tracing, better quality textures, and increased draw distances. Rockstar equipped GTA Online with a few unique additions as well, chief among them being Hao's Special Works - an auto shop where users will boost five existing cars and five new vehicles with elite performance driving upgrades. Apparently, these performance enhancements will take full advantage of the PS5's and Xbox Series X/S' horsepower. Since both GTA experiences hit the newest consoles in less than two weeks, Rockstar has opened the floodgates in terms of fresh details.

On top of detailing the performance modes for GTA 5 and GTA Online, a Rockstar Newswire post also informed PS4 and Xbox One owners of how they can begin transferring save progress with "one-time migration." Starting today, players have the ability to upload their saves to Rockstar Games Social Club by booting up the last-gen version, hitting the Pause menu's 'Game' tab, then selecting 'Upload Save Game.' Only one save can be uploaded at a time; moreover, the save data will only remain available to download for 90 days. Those who possess a Rockstar Games Social Club account will also have the option of migrating their GTA Online character to PS5 and Series X/S at launch. The transfer takes every aspect of progression into consideration, including character, clothing, weapons, jobs, stats, vehicles, and in-game currency.

The save transfer process for both Grand Theft Auto 5 and GTA Online seems simple enough, thanks in no small part to Rockstar Games Social Club. Here's to hoping the download process proves to work as smoothly as the uploading part of the equation. Fortunately, players will find out for themselves how streamlined things are in just a couple of weeks.

As noted above, Rockstar also detailed what users can expect from the graphics modes in the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions. Fidelity Mode supports 4K resolution with ray tracing enabled at a targeted 30 frames per second. Performance Mode targets 60fps at an upscaled 4K resolution. And, finally, Performance RT Mode offers a hybrid option complete with upscaled 4K visuals, ray tracing, and up to 60fps gameplay capabilities.
