A bizarre glitch is banning Grand Theft Auto Online players if they enter the game through Grand Theft Auto V. The fifth entry in Rockstar Games' open-world crime series launched in September 2013, and it was soon followed by an online multiplayer counterpart in October. While players have found many GTA Online glitches over the years, the game's latest technical issue can be particularly harmful.

Despite launching nearly a decade ago, GTAV and GTA Online continue to receive attention from Rockstar Games. The single-player portion of the open-world crime simulator was beloved for its massive open world and three unique playable protagonists, and GTA Online transferred this experience into an intense multiplayer experience. Over the years Rockstar has continued to support GTA Online through updates and in-game events, giving players a reason to return to the streets of San Andreas on a regular basis. While the developer has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is in development, the recently-released Expanded and Enhanced Edition of GTA 5 has given the series' with entry a fresh coat of paint on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

As reported by Twitter account GTAonlineNews, switching from GTAV to GTA Online is causing false bans for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S users. While players can choose to enter either the single-player or multiplayer mode from the main menu, it is also possible to transition into GTA Online directly from the GTAV story mode. Unfortunately, a glitch has led to false bans for players who enter multiplayer in this way. The issue can thankfully be avoided by simply entering GTA Online directly from the main menu, but time will tell how long it takes Rockstar to patch out the issue.

The Grand Theft Auto Online bug is troubling many gamers on new-generation consoles, but some feel that the online experience lost its luster long ago. A GTA Online update titled Further Adventures in Finance and Felony launched in 2016, allowing players to climb the corporate ladder to become a powerful CEO. While the concept is a clever way to introduce new forms of crime to the game, in practice this update merely forced players into a monotonous grind.

While many players are excited to experience GTA V and GTA Online on new-generation hardware, the false ban glitch may spoil the fun for some. Entering the multiplayer mode from the main menu is an easy solution, but some players have already been affected by the bizarre issue. Until Rockstar Games can patch the problem, Grand Theft Auto fans should avoid switching between single-player and multiplayer.
