An upcoming new paint category, set to release as an exclusive feature for Grand Theft Auto V's release on next-generation platforms in 2022, has been discovered in Grand Theft Auto Online's game files and turned into a playable mod by dataminers. Despite its release almost a decade ago, Grand Theft Auto Online's popularity continues with more and more players jumping into the the title each year. With the game breaking the player count record in 2020 and becoming Twitch's most-watched game of 2021, both GTA players and Rockstar Games have made it clear that the acclaimed online sandbox isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

As Rockstar's biggest and most popular game to date, Grand Theft Auto V's multiplayer mode continues to receive major updates and expansions that add new content and expand the title's replayability and longevity. Due to its massive player base and continued financial success, a next-gen version of the latest entry is set to re-release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S early next year in March. Next-gen players will be able to experience a revamped version of Grand Theft Auto V and its multiplayer mode with improved visuals and gameplay, shorter loading times and new features yet to be announced; although dataminers have seemingly leaked some of its plans.

With the prominent release of Grand Theft Auto V's next-gen expanded and enhanced version, it looks like Rockstar Games might have accidentally left some files in Grand Theft Auto Online for an upcoming exclusive paint category that dataminers have discovered and added to the current-gen version of the game. Posted on Twitter, user NAstyWiNN3R claims that The Chameleon paint is supposed to be a next-gen GTA V enhanced version exclusive, but due to Rockstar leaving its files in the game after The Contract content update, the chroma-styled colorful paint job is now available as a mod thanks to dataminer and modder WildBrick142, who worked endlessly for 3 days to implement the new feature into the game before releasing it to the public.

Similarly, even more information regarding the upcoming Expanded & Enhanced has been discovered due to its latest update, and it appears that Rockstar Games might be making preparations. According to dataminers, the latest The Contract update included numerous audio changes to Grand Theft Auto V, most importantly to its base game. This includes new Franklin sounds, mission passed themes, a new type of loading screen music, and much more expected to appear in the next-gen version.

The disastrous launch of the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition appears to have angered the GTA player base, so hopefully the studio is taking its upgraded version of GTA V comparatively more seriously - and carefully. It's unknown if Rockstar Games will take action against the modders or release the feature earlier. Players can however look forward to hearing more in the following months, as Grand Theft Auto V's revamped version is set to release March 2022.
