Sony Pictures Entertainment releases a brand new teaser clip for The Grudge 2020. Directed by Nicolas Pesce, the upcoming horror was produced by legendary American filmmaker Sam Raimi.

In 2002, Japanese director Takashi Shimizu released Ju-On: The Grudge. The franchise-starter focuses on a ghost whose spirit consumes a home and terrorizes the occupants. Shimizu returned to direct the first two American remakes, both of which were written by Stephen Susco. In the third American installment, The Grudge 3, director Toby Wilkins takes a more graphic visual approach for a storyline continuation. In 2017, Pesce was hired for a reboot, one that's set during the events depicted in the 2004 American remake. The Grudge 2020 stars Andrea Riseborough and Demián Bichir as Detectives Muldoon and Goodman, respectively, while John Cho and Betty Gilpin portray the Spencers, a family that experiences a domestic “grudging.” Horror icon Lin Shaye co-stars as Faith Matheson.

On YouTube, Sony released a new clip for The Grudge 2020 entitled “Bubble Bath.” The 46-second teaser features Cho’s Peter Spencer, and sets up the film’s primary inciting incident. In a darkly lit home, Peter roams a hallway and calls out for Melinda Landers, a young character portrayed by Zoe Fish. Upon entering a bathroom, Peter senses trouble and spots a bathtub full of bubbling blood. In the clip’s final seconds, a hand emerges from the bathtub and latches on to the side of Peter’s head. The character's entire body shoots backwards as the sound of the spirit’s throaty gargle fills the room. Check out The Grudge 2020’s “Bubble Bath clip below.

Those familiar with The Grudge 2020’s promotional campaign will realize that the “Bubble Bath” clip doesn’t necessarily show brand new footage. In the official Grudge 2020 movie trailer, the bathroom moment sets up the primary conflict, as a frightened Peter Spencer reaches out to Detective Muldoon after his bizarre experiences at 44 Rayburn Drive. In the red band Grudge movie trailer, however, Peter’s bathroom moment is mostly glossed over, aside from a brief shot, in favor of Detective Muldoon’s first meeting with Faith Matheson, a woman who asks to be fed (and just may be living with a corpse).

The new “Bubble Bath” teaser for The Grudge 2020 narratively connects to a creepy moment from the first trailer, along with a famous sequence from the 2004 remake starring Sarah Michelle Gellar as Karen Davis. In the respective shower sequences, a set of hands emerge from the back of the characters’ heads. Based on Pesce’s first two features, The Eyes of My Mother and Piercing, The Grudge 2020 will have a potent blend of psychological horror and visual artistry.
