Grown-Ish is a spin-off series of the sitcom Black-IshBlack-Ish is a show that follows the life of the Johnson family, an upper-middle-class family that is made up of Dre and Rainbow Johnson and their children. Zoey, the oldest of the Johnson children, is the main focus of the series Grown-Ish and is played by Yara Shahidi. It follows Zoey's life after she moves away to college and is on her own for the first time.

Anyone who has seen either of these shows will know that Zoey is into fashion in a huge way. For a short period during Black-Ish, Zoey had a YouTube channel focused on all things fashion and beauty and now that she's a college student, she hasn't stopped loving clothing. She originally planned to be a fashion designer but ended up forming her own major, so she could do things on her own terms. Because she loves fashion so much, is it any surprise that Zoey is always the best-dressed person on Grown-Ish?

This Athletic Look

This athletic outfit is one that appeared during an early episode of the first season of Grown-Ish. That was quite some time ago in the history of the show, but fans of the series will remember that this was during a time in the show when Zoey had first become involved with Cash Mooney, a star basketball player at her school.

Considering Zoey loves clothes so much, is it any surprise that she took being close to a basketball star as a chance to dress in this athletic chic outfit? The ruffle detailing on this simple track jacket added some really fun detail to the top and made it extra cute and fun.

Casual At College

The casual outfit takes us all the way back to the very first episode of Grown-Ish. Although this may not be the most elaborate or fashion-forward outfit that Zoey has worn on the show, it's definitely still one of the best for a lot of reasons. For one, this is from the first episode! It's from when we finally got to see Zoey shining in a spin-off of her own.

On top of that, this outfit is totally casual and perfect for a student going to college. Although Zoey's later outfits may be more stylish, this one really shows off the casual, comfortable nature of a freshman getting dressed to go to their first classes after school starts. Plus, hoodies are definitely in these days.

Business Vibes

This outfit comes from an episode in the first season that deals with the way people brand themselves. Zoey's budding relationship with Cash Mooney has made her start to consider the way that people portray themselves online and the way that people that get a lot of attention on social media, like Cash and his fellow college athletes, are seen by the people that follow them.

When Zoey starts getting some hate on social media due to her relationship with Cash, she begins to wonder if the way that she brands herself could be the reason. This episode has a lot of commentary on young relationships and the way that people judge others, but it also gave us this modern business look.

Simple Stripes

This outfit looks simple at first, but when you get a closer look at Zoey's super unique and stylish dress, you start to realize how cool it really is. Along with having a gold string braided into her ponytail and those statement hoop earrings, the focus of Zoey's outfit is definitely her striped dress.

This outfit is from the first season of the series and is in an episode that focuses on Zoey moving on from her breakup with Cash. Although he was charming, we have to say that it was for the best since he was pretty selfish when they started to get together. This dress has shades of blue, grey, and white stripes and is split down the middle, so each half has different tones. A totally unique and interesting take on a simple dress, perfect for a fashion-forward student like Zoey!

Long And Sleek

In the third episode of the first season, Zoey's relationship with Aaron starts to heat up and because being stylish and smart doesn't mean she's immune to the mistakes of young adulthood, things get awkward.

Luckily, the fact that things didn't go as planned didn't stop her from looking fabulous. Even though Zoey rocks her naturally curly hair in most episodes of Grown-Ish, there are also some episodes when she changes it up and we are so here for it. Zoey had her hair sleek and straight with a pair of denim shorts and a graphic-printed top that all went together perfectly.

This Denim Look

grownish stills

This outfit from the 11th episode of the first season of Grown-Ish is one that goes to show that double denim can definitely work if you know how to style it. Zoey's hair is slicked back and tied down into two low buns, letting everyone really focus on her outfit without her hair or simple makeup distracting from it. Her denim top has some western details and the sparkling black bow ties the whole thing together.

Even though Zoey's outfit was so good in this outfit, it's hard to focus on that when the episode was so important and filled with so many interesting discussions about being inclusive and race. When Cal U's historically black dorm, Hawkins Hall, is almost shut down once again, Ana's wish that "her" people also had a space, like Hawkins, starts an interesting discussion that spans the episode.

Sheer Polka Dots

This outfit is actually one that Zoey wore during an episode of Black-Ish, but she looked too fabulous to ignore simply because she wasn't away at Cal U when she donned it. In this episode, Zoey wore a black tank top underneath a sheer, black shirt that is covered in white polka dots. Her hair is braided back with white ribbons twisted around the braids and those hoops bring the whole thing together.

If you don't remember her wearing this look on Black-Ish, it's probably because the episode she wore it in was actually pulled from the air. The episode, which featured an argument between Dre and Junior about whether or not athletes should be able to kneel during the national anthem, was pulled from the air, citing creative differences on the show's production team.

Keeping It Simple

Zoey (Yara Shahidi) talking with another character on Grown-ish

This outfit is a pretty simple one as far as the colors go, but it's definitely one of Zoey's best. Zoey wore a pair of hot pink trousers, a matching hot pink blazer, and a ruffled white shirt with a skinny black tie underneath it. Those statement earrings and Zoey's perfectly curled hair tie the whole look together.

This look is from the second season of Grown-Ish and follows as Zoey makes a huge mistake. Although making mistakes is definitely a big part of growing up, the fact that Zoey cheated on her chemistry final (and got caught!), is definitely worse than some of the mistakes other people make.

Long Braids

This outfit came from the second season of Grown-Ish. This episode was a pretty serious one, but Zoey's waist-length braids and floral-printed shirt definitely stole the show during this scene of the episode.

This episode focuses on partying and hooking up in college and the issues that can come with it. This episode is definitely a good example of the way that Grown-Ish has no problem talking about real issues that people in Zoey's age group deal with on a daily basis.

All About The Details

This detailed outfit really shows off the way that Zoey has no problem taking risks when it comes to fashion. It combines a white button-down shirt with a lipstick print on the collar, statement earrings, and a blue and white printed sleeveless top over it.

This episode is from Grown-Ish's first season and talks about the cultural issues that can come into play when it comes to dating.
