In the new smash-hit survival game from Obsidian Entertainment, Grounded, players will need to establish and build up their bases to protect themselves from the many enemies they will encounter in the backyard. At the start of the game, players will likely have very little to work with when building a base. As time goes on, they will unlock new recipes and materials that can help them create the perfect fortress.

Most of the more elaborate building schematics for a Grounded base will not be unlocked until the player completes all the main story missions. Because the game is still in early access, there isn't an inordinate amount of missions to get through to unlock these features. Players can create a multi-story fortress with several floors and craft stairs to better use their space. Here's how to unlock floors and stairs easily in Grounded.

Investigate the Explosion at the Oak Tree in Grounded

BURG.L is a robot players will meet in the lab at the Oak Tree in Grounded

To unlock multi-floor bases and the ability to create stairs, players must reach the last story mission currently available, which is to fix the Mysterious Machine and investigate the explosion at the Oak Tree. There, players will find the lab and meet the robot BURG.L. BURG.L can offer the player daily challenges, teach new crafting recipes, and reward Raw Science. Raw Science can be used in BURG.L's store to purchase new recipes and upgrades.

To start collecting new crafting recipes from BURG.L, players will need to find chips containing these recipes. They will find the first one on the ground near BURG.L in the Grasslands area.

Unlock Floors and Stairs in Grounded

Players will find the Multi-Story Bases in the Raw Science upgrades store. The upgrade costs 1,000 Raw Science, which players will need to earn by completing challenges, tasks, and explorations for around three or four in-game days. While exploring, any time a player sees a pink blob, they are encouraged to walk into it to collect their Raw Science.

Once players have traded Raw Science for Floors and Stairs, they can start building a more elaborate base. Floors require 4 Grass Planks to build, and stairs require 4 Grass Planks and 1 Weed Stem.

This is the end of the early-access version of the game, so players can take as much time as they want to unlock all the available recipes and build the best possible base until the full version releases next year.
