The September patch for Grounded introduced new structures, new content, and several bug fixes to make the game run more smoothly. Some of the major standouts in the update include stronger ants with more varied abilities and new mechanics for spiderwebs that will ensnare players and other creatures if they aren't careful. With so many new threats to the player's survival, the ability to rapidly get away or better defend themselves and their bases is extremely important. For increased mobility, players can now build and use zip-lines. For this and for other weapons like the Insect Bow and Feather Arrow, players will need thread that's stronger than spider web or woven fiber: Silk Rope.

Silk Rope is a craftable resource, but to get it, players are going to need to craft one or more of the new spinning wheels, which were introduced with this most recent major update. These take quite a few resources to make but will allow the player to spin materials into stronger threads. Players can craft several spinning wheels and have them spinning a few at a time to ensure a near-constant supply of Silk Rope for their projects, provided they harvest enough spider webs. Here's how to craft the new spinning wheels in Grounded.

Craft New Spinning Wheels in Grounded

Crafting ingredients for the spinning wheel in Grounded

Players can find the blueprint for a spinning wheel in the Craft menu under Utilities. To build one, players will need to have the following resources:

  • Acorn Tops (2)
  • Clay (4)
  • Ant Part (4)
  • Sap (3)
  • Crude Rope (4)

Crude Rope is the only resource that cannot simply be found or farmed in the backyard. Instead, the player will need to craft it from 3 Plant Fiber. Once players have all the necessary ingredients, they can complete the blueprints and start spinning material into rope.

The spinning wheel usually accepts both spider web, now called Web Fiber, and Plant Fiber. To get Web Fiber, players will need to find spider webs in the backyard and harvest them using an axe or similar tool. They'll need to watch out, as usually, wherever they find spider webs, they are bound to find spiders. Now, however, it is important to exercise even more caution with the introduction of a stickiness mechanic to webs that trap player characters in the fiber. Players can find Plant Fiber in any grassy area on the map.

Grounded Update Spiderwebs Gameplay Patch Notes September

Players can queue up to four Web Fiber or Plant Fiber on each wheel and use the on-screen button prompts to begin spinning. All tasks that require any sort of processing now involve a timer, so players will see a timer ticking down how long they will need to wait. The spinning wheel will work largely on its own, unmonitored. Players will simply need to reload it with Fibers once it runs low. It may be a good idea to craft several spinning wheels and have them all working to ensure players can obtain an abundance of rope.

Silk Rope, made from Web Fiber, is so far used to build zip-lines, along with these weapons and armor:

  • Spider Fang Dagger
  • Insect Bow
  • Insect Axe
  • Feather Arrow
  • Spider Shoulder Guard
  • Spider Knee Pads

It is possible more varieties of rope and more craftable items that use it will be introduced in subsequent updates.
